The priority of the Assessor’s Office is to maintain trust, integrity and transparency to the pu

RIP- Dolly. A Legacy That Reached New Mexico

Dolly Parton’s impact went far beyond music. Through Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, her love of reading has reached children and families across New Mexico including right here in Bernalillo County.

Through local partnerships, children from birth to age 5 can receive a FREE book every month, helping families build home libraries and encouraging a love of reading from an early age.

Her legacy is a reminder that sometimes the greatest impact starts with something as simple as putting a book in a child’s hands.

💡 Did You Know?
When building a new home, It’s important to understand how new construction can affect your property’s assessed value.
The Bernalillo County Assessor’s Office tracks and values new construction, and newly constructed improvements may be valued using the Cost Approach, which considers the cost of labor and materials.
Also, New Mexico’s 3% Cap has specific rules when it comes to new improvements and changes in ownership, so don’t assume your new home’s value will simply increase by 3% each year.

The Bernalillo County Assessor’s Office offers a Head of Family Exemption that could help reduce the taxable value of your home by up to $2,000.
If you qualify, you only need to apply once the exemption remains on your property in subsequent years as long as you remain eligible.
Only one Head of Family Exemption per household is allowed, and it can only be applied to one property in New Mexico.. Don’t miss out on an exemption you may qualify for!
