Every year HAC/Serenity Mesa participates in advocacy efforts in Washington DC to encourage legislators to support alternatives to opioids for pain management. There are options available but most are not covered by insurance. The No Pain Act was passed in 2025 which ensures that Medicare patients have access to non-opioid pain management for outpatient surgical procedures. The results have shown the access to non-opioid therapy and treatment has increased 12% which is a huge start! We are now helping to pass 2 additional bills - No Pain for Veterans Act to ensure Vets are covered and Alternatives to Pain Act which addresses expanding Medicare coverage to include inpatient procedures in a hospital setting and more access to non-opioid options. Medicare sets the standard so the goal is for Medicaid and all insurance plans to include non-opioid options, which should follow standards set by Medicare. We are meeting with Senator Ben Ray Lujan and Congress Women Leger-Fernandez and Stansbury while we are here to encourage their sponsorship and support of these bills. Rep. Melanie Stansbury

The NOPAIN Act is a bipartisan bill designed to increase access to non-opioid approaches to acute pain management. Weigh in with your representatives in Congress and encourage them to support.
