New Mexico Sen. Peter Wirth announced today that he won't seek reelection in 2028. Nor will he seek the Senate majority leader post for the 2027 legislative session.

Peter Wirth is one of the finest legislative partners I have had the privilege of working alongside. He led with discipline, integrity, and a sincere conviction that government exists to improve people's lives. From cradle-to-career investments and tax relief for working families to expanding health care access, Senator Wirth approached every challenge the same way: with patience, kindness and New Mexico's families front and center.

Senator Wirth leaves this role having made the institution stronger, and New Mexico is better for his service.
