ABC to Z

ABC to Z “ABC to Z” is the CABQ Planning Dept's Long Range Planning Team. We work with our community to plan for the vision of ABQ, create development regulations that reflect that vision, and better understand the workings of City government and development.

ABC to Z is an ambitious two-year project to update the Albuquerque/Bernalillo County Comprehensive Plan and to integrate and simplify the city’s zoning and subdivision regulations to implement the resulting plan. Key goals of the project are to improve opportunities for economic development and job creation, improve protection for the city’s established neighborhoods, streamline the city’s development review and approval procedures, and respond to long-standing water and traffic challenges by promoting more sustainable development.

NHI Youth Speak on Racism, Healthy Equity and a Better World

We LOVE this video from Native Health Initiative- NHI showing the power of young people engaging with and supporting their communities. We've been very lucky to work with NHI and learn from their asset-based community healing work. 🙏

Youth voices and perspectives are often left out of the conversation. What are we missing in that youth-phobic approach to creating a better world? This video will…

Goodnight Nobody - 99% Invisible

This episode starts off with a great discussion of the role of libraries in creating space and providing resources to children - particularly children with the least resources and the most need for books and dedicated spaces. The second half is just a great history of a well-loved book that you probably didn't know!

To celebrate the 125th anniversary of the New York Public Library, a list was published of the ten books that had been checked out the most in the history of the library — and most of these were children’s books, like The Cat in the Hat and Where the Wild Things Are. Curiously absent from

If you've checked out the Comp Plan or interactive map recently you will have noticed the Areas of Change and Areas of Consistency. This week's #FAQFriday is what do those designations mean?
Areas of Change and Consistency indicate where growth is expected and encouraged, and where new development needs to respect and reinforce the scale, intensity, and character of the existing context. Read more about Areas of Change and Consistency here: https://abc-zone.com/comprehensive-plan-frequently-asked-questions#areas-change

Are there places in the region you have a hard time getting to by bike, bus, car, or by foot? We want to know so that we can work to create a better connected transportation network.

MRMPO has developed a new, interactive map to collect your feedback. Please take a moment to record any problem areas you know of from traveling around the area. Data collected will be used in the development of the Connections 2040 Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP).

Please note that this map is part of a long range planning effort, so please enter your thoughts on gaps in the system, not maintenance issues. Maintenance issues can be reported to the City via 311.

A configuration of Crowdsource Reporter that can be used by the general public to identify transportation concerns.

Great reminder about why we love ABQ so much! #OptOutside next Friday and explore some of our great parks and open spaces while recovering from maybe too many pieces of pie! City of Albuquerque Parks and Recreation, thanks for your great work making sure we have access to great spaces so close to home!

Albuquerque was named one of the top 50 cities to #OptOutside according to data from the Trust for Public Land in partnership with REI Co-op. 86% of ABQ residents live within a 10-minute walk of a park, compared to a national average of 55%.

Consider taking advantage of our beautiful city, state, and national parks by spending Black Friday outdoors with friends and family.

This article reminds me so much of the many hours I, City Planners and other interested members of the public spent sussing out the best ways to update the regulatory vision for the city (Comp. Plan) and the accompanying zoning codes. It was hard and fun and everything else. This article describes one other process that we might have also done that is very compelling.
