Remember to make sure that your temporary signs are out of the public right of way and that they don't block driver's view!

With the City of Albuquerque elections now fewer than 60 days away, political yard signs are starting to pop up on lawns and in other locations around the city. The Planning Department is reminding residents that yard signs are subject to specific city codes.
City codes 5-12(I)(2)(c) of the Integrated Development Ordinance (IDO) say one temporary sign may be displayed for up to 60 calendar days prior to and 10 calendar days after an election. This doesn’t apply to billboards.

No temporary signs should be placed in the public right-of-way including street medians, sidewalks or utility poles. In addition, signs should not block the ability of a vehicle to clearly see oncoming traffic at street intersections.

The temporary sign codes are available here: IDO - 2020 Annual Update - Integrated Development Ordinance (IDO) | Interactive Integrated Development Ordinance (abc-zone.com).

If you have any questions about the requirements for temporary political signs, please call 3-1-1.

This article reminds me so much of the many hours I, City Planners and other interested members of the public spent sussing out the best ways to update the regulatory vision for the city (Comp. Plan) and the accompanying zoning codes. It was hard and fun and everything else. This article describes one other process that we might have also done that is very compelling.
