ABC to Z

ABC to Z “ABC to Z” is the CABQ Planning Dept's Long Range Planning Team. We work with our community to plan for the vision of ABQ, create development regulations that reflect that vision, and better understand the workings of City government and development.

ABC to Z began with an ambitious two-year project to update the Albuquerque/Bernalillo County Comprehensive Plan and to integrate and simplify the city’s zoning and subdivision regulations to implement the resulting plan. The work continues with Community Planning Area assessments. Key goals of the project are to improve opportunities for economic development and job creation, improve protection for the city’s established neighborhoods, streamline the city’s development review and approval procedures, Albuquerque / Bernalillo County Comprehensive Planand respond to long-standing water and traffic challenges by promoting more sustainable development. Check out this great article on a proposed project near the Albuquerque International Sunport

On Wednesday, March 3, The City’s Development Review Board heard a proposal from D.C.-based Group Orion to build a sprawling tech facility near the Sunport. Group wants to establish a worldwide satellite network out of a 116 acre space, which would include a hotel, food hall and jobs for about 1000 employees by 2023. ABQ RIDE is waiving all fares for ABQ RIDE buses and Sun Van services tomorrow for #TransitEquityDay!

Check out other events happening locally- Together for Brothers and community partners will be livestreaming to celebrate the birthday of Rosa Parks and Transit Equity Day (TED) tomorrow!

Tomorrow, we’re honoring civil rights icon Rosa Parks and Transit Equity Day by waiving all fares for ABQ RIDE buses and Sun Van service. Rosa Parks’ act of resistance in 1955 shows that everyone can make a difference in the ongoing fight for equity and making services accessible to everyone.

This article reminds me so much of the many hours I, City Planners and other interested members of the public spent sussing out the best ways to update the regulatory vision for the city (Comp. Plan) and the accompanying zoning codes. It was hard and fun and everything else. This article describes one other process that we might have also done that is very compelling.
