Inside the Sheriff's Office #5

Check out our newest episode of Inside the Sheriff's Office! Tune in today and hear from Sergeant Dudewicz and learn about our Safe Child Unit. Sergeant Dudewicz and other members of the Safe Child Unit are experts in their field and they make an incredible impact on the lives of children and families in Bernalillo County. This unit receives roughly 2,500 CYFD referrals for abuse and neglect every year! In 2019, Sheriff Manuel Gonzales III and other leaders like Sgt Dudewicz knew a specialized unit needed to be initiated to take action. Let us know your thoughts in the comments.

The New Mexico Mortgage Lender Association included the Sheriff's Office in their annual Teddy-Bear and Blanket donation drive once again this year. This tradition brings first-responder agencies together to collect and distribute donations to families in need all across the county.

We are so grateful for these donations to bring joy to local residents. Thank you to all the donors! We are excited and thankful to be part of such an amazing and giving community.
We want to give a special thanks to New Mexico Mortgage Lenders Association and the Executive staff at Waterstone Mortgage Corporation.

Our deputies and detectives in the North Area Command of Bernalillo County have been taking a proactive approach to deterring mail package theft by bolstering patrol and making community contacts with our citizens and mail carriers. Our MCAT deputies are pictured here while a citizen received a package just after speaking about suspicious activity in the neighborhood. This special proactive approach will extend for about a month after Christmas! Never hesitate to call our non-emergency dispatch center at 505-798-7000 to report suspicious activity so that we can prevent as many of these thefts as possible!

COVID-19 Sheriff's Stay at Home Statement

“As the Sheriff, duly elected by Bernalillo County citizens, I choose to direct this agency’s time and resources toward enforcing the laws deemed to keep the people free of crime. Overreaching restrictions will only hurt our community; for that reason, we will not follow along with any orders that subvert your constitutional rights. Therefore, my agencies’ focus will continue to be public safety, apprehending actual criminals, and not harassing everyday citizens attempting to make a life for themselves and their families in Bernalillo County.” -Sheriff Manuel Gonzales III

BCSO calls out District Attorney’s Office over case issues

Bernalillo County residents that have fallen victim to a crime are frustrated. BCSO Investigators are frustrated. The criminal justice system is failing in New Mexico and we want justice for our citizens. Did you know that in 2019 alone, 67% of SVU (Special Victims Unit) cases investigated by our hard working, and experienced detectives were quickly dismissed or Nolle Prosequi by the DA's Office? This is a matter of public record and the community deserves to know what is happening to victims in Bernalillo County.

Man charged in NW Albuquerque FBI agent shooting

"According to federal court documents, Derick Garcia shot through the door as FBI agents were serving a warrant at an apartment near Menaul Blvd. and 12th Street last week... In February of 2019, Garcia was driving a stolen car and when Bernalillo County Sheriff’s deputies tried to stop him, he took off and nearly hit them twice. The chase ended with a deputy firing his gun at the stolen car. In that case, Garcia got a plea deal. He admitted he was guilty, got credit for time served, and walked out of jail on probation in the fall of 2019."

An FBI agent was injured this morning during a federal search warrant in Albuquerque, NM. Our thoughts are with the agent and his family. The FBI stated the agent suffered a non-life-threatening gunshot wound and was taken to a local hospital in stable condition. Kudos to the FBI, APD, and our BCSO deputies for the collaboration. The suspect is in custody!

Pasadena Police Nab Murder Suspect with Help of Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office, New Mexico - Pasadena Independent

"On Tuesday November 24, 2020, at approximately 7:52 AM, Pasadena Police responded to Hahamongna Watershed Park in response to a deceased adult female victim found by a passerby. Evidence from the crime scene indicated the victim had been stabbed multiple times. The victim was positively identified as 49-year-old Elena Ledford, a resident of Glendale, CA. An autopsy examination of victim Ledford by the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office determined the cause of death to be the result of multiple sharp force injuries. Pasadena Police Homicide Detectives developed leads early in the investigation, revealing the location of the murder to be a parking lot at La Canada High School, directly across the street from where the victim’s body was found. Furthermore, Detectives identified 26- year-old Pasadena resident Adrian Robert Casey as the likely suspect. Suspect Casey is currently on parole with the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) and had a familiar relationship with victim Ledford. It was learned Mr. Casey had left California shortly after the murder and on Thursday November 26, 2020 he was taken into custody with the assistance of the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office, near Albuquerque, New Mexico."

BCSO WE LOVE YOU NATALIE!

The Bernalillo County Sheriff's Office wants to send blessings, love, and support to Natalie Rimel, who is currently undergoing serious treatment for her brain cancer. Natalie is a fellow Bernalillo County resident and needs as much support as she can get from our community during this difficult time. Please watch the video we made her. One of our employees sent out a gift basket today to her, including patches and challenge coins, and a few other goodies to lift her spirits. Read more about her story here and check out her page and Gofundme account if you are willing to support her and her family.

"She is an 11-year-old, beautiful, fun-loving, and sweet girl whose life changed in April of 2019. She is currently dealing with an Anaplastic Astrocytoma grade 3, a malignant tumor that basically attacks cells in the nervous system. Because of this, she has lost motor function on the right side of her body, along with some memory loss and confusion. Because the type of treatment Natalie requires is not offered in New Mexico, the family will have to travel to MD Anderson in Houston, Texas, for 6-8 weeks. This is an exceedingly difficult time for Natalie and her family, just dealing with the diagnosis. Natalie also has a brother who is a senior in high school; this poses a challenge for the family because it will require more travel back-and-forth to help maintain some normalcy for him. They will also be facing other challenges like medical bills, travel, and relocation costs while still trying to maintain their everyday bills, all while not being able to work."

Make no mistake, Manny Gonzales does not care for your safety or constitutional rights. Manny Gonzales is thinking only of his own publicity and a Trump-like fiasco in the years to come.
https://www.abqjournal.com/1529284/sheriff-gets-national-attention-pushback-for-stance-on-public-health-orders.html Stay tuned for another publicity stunt from Gonzales as he runs for Mayor or Congress and declares no one has to take the vaccines. Sheriff Manny Gonzales needs to just stop the pandering, stop his “truth decay”, and stop undermining the public health orders. Gonzales acts as if his badge gives him a license to practice law without a license by declaring fully legal public health orders as “unconstitutional”. He is a throwback to law enforcement thinking they are above the law. Sheriff Gonzales is using the exact same inflammatory rhetoric and tactics as right-wing extremist use to set aside the health orders.
Thank you for standing up for us!!
YOU ARE A DOUCHEBAG.
I don’t post much on FB but I needed to give a huge shoutout to Derrick and Angelina with the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Department!! They passed on an act of kindness to us while we were at Target today that they deserve to be recognized for!! 🥰 I wish I knew more than just their names but if I can have everyone I know and everyone that sees this send out a virtual hug and a thank you I hope that it would somehow reach them! Thank you again to Derrick and Angelina and may you both get your kindness back a hundred million times over!! I will continue to find ways to pass your generosity on to others!
Thank you Sheriff for standing up for our Constitutional rights! You're the man! Law and order :) End the lockdowns and mask mandates!
We appreciate everything our law enforcement officers do to keep us safe. I wanted to give the BCSO a special thanks for the crackdown on Alameda in the area of the Alameda/Bachechi open space. It had gotten to the point where driving along there was like watching an auto race or demolition derby waiting to happen. I walk there every day and over the last couple of weeks I have seen officers citing at least a dozen or more. Thank you 🙏
