The female suspect, described to be Hispanic and in her 30s, pulled out a hammer on an employee as the employee attempted to stop her from shoplifting. The female fled south on Isleta in a gold SUV. Due to Jerico being unable to care for himself and uncompliant with medication, investigators are very concerned for his safety. UPDATE: 4th Street is reopened, and the scene has been cleared.
Deputies are on the scene of a motorcycle crash on 4th Street and Solar Rd NW. All lanes of 4th Street in both directions are temporarily closed to through traffic as we clear the crash. A man driving the motorcycle was transported in critical condition. Please avoid the area.
Deputies with the Mobile Community Action Team (MCAT) located a remote camp in the Bosque where the unlawful camper had been making fires. He was given access to resources for shelter and living assistance. Deputies will continue to patrol the Bosque to assure the area remains safe and that unlawful camping and fires are not a continuing issues.

APD cadet class #126 and later class #29 were cross-commissioned today by Sheriff Manuel Gonzales III as special deputies for Bernalillo County. On 12/4/22, Deputies responded to 826 Arthur Dr. SW for a call regarding an assault with a firearm. Units arrived and were unable to immediately contact the victim; after PA’s, she exited and confirmed violent felony charges and stated the offender, Leon Salazar (41), was barricaded inside a closet with 2 fi****ms. The victim escaped without her 2-year-old daughter, and it was learned there were 4 other adults inside. The offender and the other adults refused to exit, and a SWAT activation was authorized. At that time, the child was rescued, and the additional adults came out. After 11 + hours of negotiation, the offender attempted to flee and was captured by BCSO SWAT. The scene was turned over to investigators, and Leon Salazar was charged with aggravated assault on a household member, child abuse, false imprisonment, and battery on a household member.

On Friday, December 2, 2022, helicopter pilots from across the country attended the sixth annual Bob Martin Helicopter Safety Stand-Down at Balloon Fiesta Park. In 2012, Bob Martin, a reporter, and pilot with KRQE News 13 started an initiative to bring together helicopter operators from throughout the state to discuss safety issues or concerns. In 2017, Bob Martin was killed in a helicopter crash in Lincoln County, NM. Undersheriff Larry Koren wanted to keep the event going and renamed it in Bob Martin’s honor. This year, the conference remembered Bob Martin and the fallen heroes of the Metro 2 helicopter crash, including Undersheriff Larry Koren, Lieutenant Fred Beers, Deputy Michael Levison, and Rescue Specialist Matthew King. BCSO has been hosting the conference since 2017 and has continued to grow from about 30-40 people in attendance to over 150 this year, including military, law enforcement, news agencies, business operators, medical transport, and students in the helicopter aviation industry. The conference was a one-day event with 8-10 speakers presenting topics from new technologies, mountain rescue, effects of fatigue, and how to work with multiple agencies. Presenters included representation from FLIR, Bell Helicopter, the Helicopter Safety Alliance, and several local speakers. The conference sponsorships included the City of Albuquerque, Bell, Airbus, FLIR, NM DOT Aviation, UNMH, Vertical Limit Aviation, Calibers Shooting Range, MHQ, Central Grill, Kaufman’s, Randolph Engineering, Juggernaut Defense, Sandia Casino, and Texas Roadhouse. The Bernalillo County Sheriff's Office is requesting the public's assistance in locating missing 21-year-old Savannah Lujan. She was last seen on 11/30/22 around 5:20PM in the area of 4500 2nd St. driving a gold 2006 Chrysler 300 with a NM license plate: ATWN58. This is the most recent photo provided to investigators but they were made aware that her hair is now very short. She is without her medication and due to additional medical reasons investigators are very concerned for her safety.

On October 19, 2022, at approximately 11:10 am, deputies were dispatched to 1625 Rio Bravo Blvd SW (Family Dollar). The victim advised that a male offender pointed a gun at her after she was retrieving stolen merchandise. The offender who pointed the gun was wearing a black cropped tank top, black glasses, long black hair, and what appeared to be an unknown tattoo on the upper right arm. The unidentified male and an unknown female left the area in a brown sedan.

EOW: Detective Alfred Ray Davis
November 25, 1968
Detective Alfred Davis was only 24 years of age when he was killed after the New Mexico State Police vehicle he was in swerved to avoid a collision and dropped off a six foot embankment near the intersection of Coors Boulevard and Rio Bravo Southwest Boulevard. Detective Davis had just aided the State Police Officer in an arrest and was accompanying him to another call when the accident occurred.
Detective Davis served with the Bernalillo County Sheriff's Department for three years. He was survived by his parents, brother and sister.
The Bernalillo County Sheriff's Office Ghost Unit collaborates with the NM Attorney General's Internet Crimes Against Children's Task Force and the FBI Child Exploitation and Human Trafficking Task Force in their fight against child exploitation and human trafficking. They are committed to finding those in our communities that prey upon the most innocent. These cases are particularly heinous and require a collaborative effort across many disciplines to hold the perpetrators accountable and make victims whole. We are grateful for the many dedicated partners in this pursuit.
On Tuesday, a convicted s*x offender faced 358 years in prison after being convicted on 30 counts related to possession, manufacturing, and distributing child p**n.
This is believed to be a murder-suicide. A friend of the decedents contacted deputies after receiving a troubling message from Eric Pinkerton. Upon arrival deputies located the decedents inside the residence along with several dead animals. Eric Pinkerton is believed to have shot his wife and several animals in the house before shooting himself.
The decedents have been confirmed as: Diane Albert- 65 and Eric Pinkerton- 63

Deputies will be looking for people driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs to reduce the number of impaired driving-related crashes and fatalities on our roadways. The Sheriff’s Office strongly believes in the importance of saving lives through proactive strategies and encourages citizens to take an active role in their community and report suspected impaired drivers by calling 911. We need your help; if you consume alcohol or drugs, do not drive, and have a plan to get home safely. Please utilize rideshare services and avoid drinking and driving at all costs. Through personal responsibility and proactive policing, we can make Bernalillo County a safer place to live.
BCSO Deputies recently went through the International Police Mountain Bike Association training to improve their bicycle skills! Check out this video describing the training and the benefits it brings to Bernalillo County. Class attendees included members of BCSO, NM Game and Fish, UNM Police Department, and the Santa Fe Fire Department.
On September 20, 2022, at approximately 1:23 pm, Bernalillo County Sheriff's Deputies were flagged down at 201 Rio Bravo Blvd SW in reference to a suspicious person inside a vehicle. Deputies on the scene attempted to make contact with the suspect. Upon contact, the suspect fled in his vehicle after striking two deputy units. The suspect continued to flee westbound on Rio Bravo and turned southbound on Isleta Blvd. The suspect crashed into two civilian vehicles causing his vehicle to become disabled near the intersection of Isleta Blvd Sw and Camino Del Valle SW. The suspect eventually exited the vehicle and refused to comply with the deputy's commands. He continued to make sporadic movements while using the vehicle to conceal himself. Deputies attempted to break out the heavily tinted windows utilizing bean bag rounds to improve visibility. At one point, the suspect makes a distinct movement as if holding a firearm and aims a black object toward a motorist behind him. Five deputies and a sergeant fired at the suspect. The suspect sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Deputies immediately rendered aid; however, the suspect succumbed to his injuries. Multiple witnesses of the deputy-involved shooting were interviewed and stated they observed the suspect pointing what was perceived to be a firearm. The object was later determined to be a black flashlight recovered from the scene. Fentanyl, heroin, and drug paraphernalia were located in the vehicle, along with dozens of bank cards with various identities. The suspect has been identified as 45-year-old, Colby Atkins. Atkins has an extensive criminal history. In 2020, Atkins was released from federal prison. At the time of the shooting, Atkins was in a stolen vehicle and had multiple active arrest warrants.
On September 20, 2022, at approximately 1:23 pm, Bernalillo County Sheriff's Deputies were flagged down at 201 Rio Bravo Blvd SW in reference to a suspicious person inside a vehicle. Deputies on the scene attempted to make contact with the suspect. Upon contact, the suspect fled in his vehicle after striking two deputy units. The suspect continued to flee westbound on Rio Bravo and turned southbound on Isleta Blvd. The suspect crashed into two civilian vehicles causing his vehicle to become disabled near the intersection of Isleta Blvd Sw and Camino Del Valle SW. The suspect eventually exited the vehicle and refused to comply with the deputy's commands. He continued to make sporadic movements while using the vehicle to conceal himself. Deputies attempted to break out the heavily tinted windows utilizing bean bag rounds to improve visibility. At one point, the suspect makes a distinct movement as if holding a firearm and aims a black object toward a motorist behind him. Five deputies and a sergeant fired at the suspect. The suspect sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Deputies immediately rendered aid; however, the suspect succumbed to his injuries. With only a few days left to attend the @nmstatefair, we encourage you to check out the Lego area, where kids throughout the county submitted their Lego masterpieces for recognition. There is one standout entry that we want to highlight. Issac Willis met Pilot and Undersheriff Larry Koren a few years ago and sat in the front seat of our helicopter (video). It was a memory that Issac never forgot as our friendly Undersheriff let him check out the aircraft and talked to him about helicopters. This year, Issac created a Lego tribute to our fallen heroes of Metro 2 and submitted it to the fair for everyone to remember their sacrifice. If you haven't seen it yet, go check it out! On September 11, 2021, deputies responded to an aggravated battery at Speedway Convenience Store on 4th St. NW. An unidentified customer had punched, knocked to the ground, and repeatedly kicked the head of a female employee after shoplifting from the store and then assaulted another customer who attempted to intervene. The suspect was later identified as 35-year-old, Courtney McCalep of Albuquerque, NM. A violent, repeat offender, out on pre-trial services, with an ankle monitor. He was on pre-trial services due to an aggravated battery charge in June 2020. He allegedly attacked a man with a crowbar after a minor vehicle accident in a parking lot. The pretrial detention request was denied by Judge Alisa Hart and he was placed on conditions of release on July 21, 2021. McCalep has well over a dozen booking photos from MDC and he has a long history of extreme violence, violating probation, and violating past conditions of release; this was still not enough to keep him incarcerated in New Mexico. We want to thank the individuals that came forward identifying the suspect in the video and assisting law enforcement with locating and arresting him. This is an excellent example of police and the community working hand in hand. On September 2, 2021, at about 1:30 p.m., the crew of BCSO's Metro 2 helicopter assisted in the rescue of a 70 year old male patient on Mount Wheeler, NM. The extraction took place at nearly 11,000 feet elevation. The patient was transported to the Taos Airport to receive further care. Stakeholders included Bernalillo County Fire Department, UNM Reach & Treat, Bernalillo County Sheriff's Office, Taos County Fire & EMS Department, Wheeler Peak Fire District, Red River Fire Dept, Taos Pueblo, and New Mexico State Police Search and Rescue!
The Bernalillo County Sheriff's Office joined the MADD New Mexico in their nationwide campaign of Saturation Saturday on August 28th, 2021. This campaign assisted in the promotion of high visibility enforcement as an impaired driving deterrent. Through our continuing efforts, we encourage designated drivers, safe rides, and the responsible consumption of alcohol. Alongside MADD New Mexico we are proud to support the unified message that New Mexico is against the senseless act of impaired driving, and people who make the wrong choice will be removed from the roadway. -On Saturation Saturday 2021 we made 42 traffic stops resulting in 6 DWI arrests. -Last week, we made 82 traffic stops resulting in 14 DWI arrests. -Through the entire ENDWI grant funding of the fiscal year 2021 (not including our normal shifts or county grant numbers) so far, we have made 3,821 traffic stops resulting in 106 DWI arrests and 55 other arrests. On 08-21-21, at about 6:30pm, BCSO's Metro 2 helicopter assisted in the rescue of a 60 year old female along the Continental Divide Trail, west of Chicoma Mtn. The female sustained an injury while riding an off-road motorcycle on a remote dirt trail. A BCFD medic was hoisted down to rescue the patient. Both the patient and rescue medic were hoisted into the helicopter. The crew of Metro 2 rendezvoused with an awaiting medical helicopter nearby. The patient was turned over to Classic Air Mesical helicopter to be transported to a hospital. Thank you to the Rio Arriba County Sheriff's Office for coordinating this rescue.
