This week, our Regional CCBP Meeting was graciously hosted by Grammy’s House in Artesia. Participating member programs traveled from across the state to attend Tuesday’s meeting, themed “Self-care and Sustainable Children’s Programming.”

NMCADV’s Children’s Capacity Building Project was started in 2014 as an innovative method to provide support and services focused on children and families impacted by domestic violence. Based on the tremendous success of the project, the CCBP has expanded over the years, and the number of participating programs that provide children’s services has more than doubled in New Mexico.

A special thank you to our participants, presenters, and hosts for their contributions to the meeting and for the work that is done every day to provide safety and support to survivors and their children.

Thank you to the network of domestic violence providers who were able to participate: Grammy’s House Domestic Violence Shelter, Roberta’s Place, SAFE House, Roswell Refuge, COPE, Carlsbad Battered Family Shelter, TriCounty Family Justice Center, and our presenters: Hello Wellness Therapy, Jeanette Baca, PhD

💜 Survivors of intimate partner violence face unique barriers to voting. 💜

Many survivors do not register to vote because voter registration applications are sent to local or state election officials and become a public record that can be accessed by the public. Survivors may also lack access to critical election-related information because they have been isolated by their abuser or are restricted from using the internet and social media. Nonetheless, advocates can share crucial information about elections and practice safety planning with survivors throughout the voter registration process.

The Safe at Home project with the New Mexico Office of the Secretary of State (https://www.sos.nm.gov/safe-at-home/) offers survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault or stalking to receive mail using the Secretary of State’s address as a substitute for their own, while keeping their actual address confidential.

💜 November is Native American Heritage Month 💜

November is a time to celebrate the rich tapestry of Native American cultures, but it's also crucial to address the challenges many face. This Native American Heritage Month, let's shine a light on an issue that disproportionately affects indigenous communities — domestic violence.

Indigenous voices matter, and so do their stories. Let's amplify the narratives of strength, resilience, and healing within Native American communities. Follow the amazing work happening at our sister coalition

💜 A Big Step Forward in Community Care! 💜

Last week on October 18, 2024, our CEO MaryEllen Garcia and Director of Abuse Intervention Programs & Systems Response, David Garvin, presented at the Primary Care Providers Conference hosted by the Mexico Primary Care Association. 🎉

Together, they engaged with over 200 Enrollment and Patient Benefits Coordinators from primary care clinics across New Mexico to discuss a powerful vision: leveraging our health system to address intimate partner violence statewide. 💜 The energy in the room was incredible, with attendees sharing how much they gained from the presentation and picking up practical skills to bring back to their organizations!

We’re thrilled to announce this new partnership with NMPCA to deliver specialized IPV training to over 200 clinics and 4,000 medical professionals! This is just the beginning—our goal is to make sure all primary care providers, from physicians to front-line staff, are equipped to recognize IPV, ask the right questions, validate patient experiences, and provide crucial referrals to DV specialists.

This collaboration marks the start of something big, with the potential to transform patient care and create safer, stronger communities in New Mexico! 🏥💪

💜 October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month 💜

Every minute, nearly 20 people in the United States are physically abused by an intimate partner, adding up to over 10 million women and men each year.

As DVAM comes to a close, let’s remember that our commitment to ending domestic violence must continue.

Together, we can create a future where everyone is safe, supported, and free from abuse. 💜

💜 October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month 💜

In 43% of intimate partner violence cases, children witness the strangulation of their mothers, and tragically, 9% of those children are also strangled.

No child should ever endure or witness such violence. We must protect families and break the cycle of trauma by supporting survivors and raising awareness.

💜 October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month 💜

An estimated 92% of women who have experienced intimate partner violence (IPV), including strangulation, suffer from Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBI).

The lasting effects of TBI can impact every aspect of a survivor’s life. Let’s raise awareness about these invisible injuries and ensure survivors receive the care and support they need.

Our own Mica Reagan recently attended Comunitario's 25th Anniversary Open House! 💜 It was a fantastic day of celebration, connection, and conversation, highlighting the impactful work that Enlace’s Promotoras and Youth Leaders are doing to support survivors. With a look ahead at Enlace's goals and the power of community support, we’re excited to continue working toward a brighter future together.

2. Mica with a couple of the Youth Leaders in front of the Enlace mural. This mural was created by the youth leaders to represent their experience with having Enlace available and what people can expect when working with a culturally specific provider in community.
3. Promotoras sharing another beautiful mural. Pictured from left to right: Ruth Rodriguez- Outreach Facilitator, Promotora PB, Promotora JMG, Promotora ML, and Promotora YV, and Mica Reagan. This mural was created by the Promotora's to be the first thing survivors see when entering Enlace. The graphics of the heart, hands and faces capture "unity, collaboration and hope." "The tree represents the roots and culture of our people,"..."it is important that survivors know their culture and language is present here"

💜 October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month 💜

Strangulation survivors often face overwhelming despair, with the lowest hope scores of all domestic violence victims and a 31% increase in suicidal thoughts.

This devastating impact highlights the urgent need for comprehensive support and intervention. Let’s work together to restore hope and provide safety for all survivors.
