NMTAP offers free services to New Mexicans with disabilities to help them get the assistive technology (AT) services they need. NMTAP is a statewide program designed to increase knowledge of, access to, and acquisition of assistive or adaptive technology for anyone with any disability, anywhere in the state, of any age. There are four main components of which include financial assistance, assistiv

e technology device loans, device demonstrations, and device re-utilization. NMTAP partners with community based organizations and area banks. We offer individuals with disabilities affordable loan solutions statewide that enable the purchase of equipment you need to succeed in life. NMTAP has devices and software that can be borrowed on a short term basis for individuals with disabilities through the Device Loan Program. We have approximately 1,800 assistive technology devices for loan. Our motto is, "We have over a thousand devices with infinite possibilities of how they might be configured for each individual!"

Device demonstrations allow consumers to compare features and benefits of a particular device or category of devices. Demonstrations are for individuals, or a small group of individuals to assist in making an informed choice on what devices will aid in their independence. In some situations it can be difficult to obtain an assistive medical device or a computer to access the community. NMTAP partners with the community based program, BackInUse and DiverseIT of Adelante Development Center to provide this service to individuals with disabilities. New Mexico Technology Assistance Program (NMTAP) is a program of the State of New Mexico Governor's Commission on Disability, under a grant from the U.S Department of Health and Human Services, Administration on Community Living.
