Drive-up, Pick-up and Go Food Pantries for Seniors 60+
BernCo Office of Senior and Social Services (OSSS) and Silver Horizons will provide FREE groceries to seniors Dec. 21 and Dec. 22 to address food insecurity for seniors 60 and over.
The dates and locations are:

Monday, Dec. 21, 10 a.m. - noon
Rio Bravo Senior Center (Parking Lot)
3910 Isleta Blvd. SW, Albuq., 87105

Tuesday, Dec. 22, 10 a.m. - noon
Sheriff’s Posse Outdoor Facility

Seniors should wear a facemask, remain in their vehicles at all times, and are asked to NOT arrive before 9:30 a.m. BernCo will follow COVID safe practices. All food will be pre-boxed for quick distribution and there will one way in and out of the event. Those needing food assistance are advised to select one date to ensure as many seniors can be helped during this time.

Online Book to Movie Adaptation Begins in January - Bernalillo County Older Adults 55+ are invited to participate in the Book to Movie Adaptation Series. Discuss short stories and/or novels and movie adaptation. Each class is limited to 25 participants for optimum group exchange. The lineup includes:
• Jan. 19: The Wisdom of Eve, a short story by Mary Orr published in Cosmopolitan (1946), and movie “All About Eve” (1950)
• Feb. 16: The Bear Came Over the Mountain a short story by Nobel Prize-winning author Alice Munro published in The New Yorker (1999), and movie “Away From Her” (2006)
• March 16: Rashomon short story by Ryunosoke Akutagawa published in Shincho (1922), and movie“Rashomon” (1950)
• Apr. 20: Dracula by Bram Stoker, a novel published in 1887, and movie “Bram Stoker’s Dracula” (1992)

Paint a Portrait - Free online painting classes for older adults 55+ in Bernalillo County will be held Jan. 14, Feb. 11 and March 25, 2021 from 2 – 4 p.m. Registrants receive an art kit via mail to include canvas, paints, brushes and disposable apron. Only 10 seats are available per class, and persons may register for one class only. Comedy Workshop Uses Humor as Outlet
Comedy and humor can help older adults cope with social isolation due to the pandemic. Laughter is known to improve health, ease stress, and loneliness. Join former "Tonight Show" writer Jo Firestone every Tuesday in January as she helps participants use humor as an outlet with social/brain stimulating activities and techniques to be funny and experiment with jokes. Learn genealogy which is the study of family ancestral origins. Learn to trace your ancestors and discover family roots. A four part series of classes begins in late November and runs thru early December 2020 to help those begin an engaging search into ones family lineage.

Classes online via Zoom - Mondays, Nov. 23 and 30, Dec. 7 and 14, 2020 - 10:30 a.m. to 12 noon.

Bingo, Senior Dances, and More to Virtual Spaces
The City of Albuquerque Department of Senior Affairs is offering older adults online and television-based programs to include virtual presentations, fitness videos, Bingo, and even senior dances with live music.
Tune into GOV-TV (Comcast Channel 16) to watch a televised senior dance with live music and socially distanced dancing by two couples. The next show is Oct. 10 at 3 pm and 7 pm.
Every two weeks, Bingo on Facebook live, will be at 1:30 pm on Oct. 14 and 28. Those interested in participating can pick up Bingo cards from any of five pick-up meal sites between 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. the Monday before live BINGO or can email [email protected] for more information.

Movies in the Parking Lot continues through August 1 and is free of charge and is on a first-come, first-served basis. Gates open at 7 p.m. Movies are shown in the parking lot of the Isleta Amphitheater at 5601 University Blvd, south of Rio Bravo. Upcoming movies include: July 18 – Frozen 2 | July 25 – Lion King (2018) and Aug. 1 – Cars. Social distancing is observed; outside food and drink is permitted. No alcohol permitted. Food trucks will be onsite. Dogs are permitted, but must be on a leash.

Bernalillo County Office of Senior and Social Services and Teeniors have teamed up to offer technology coaching to Older Adults in the month of July. Up to 30 free one-on-one sessions will be available for Bernalillo County seniors ages 55 and older. Lessons range from texting and calling to using Zoom and social media.

Teeniors are tech-savvy teens and young adults who provide help to senior citizens, or any-aged person, learn technology through one-on-one, personalized coaching. Since the COVID-19 pandemic, Teeniors has transitioned from in-person coaching to 100% virtual coaching. Lessons can also be provided in Spanish if needed.

Silver Horizon’s Senior Drive-Thru Food Market will offer free groceries for seniors 60-plus at Bernalillo County community centers from 10 to 11 am on the following days:
· Wednesday, June 24 - Rio Bravo Senior Center, 3910 Isleta Blvd SW
· Thursday, June 25 - Los Padillas CC, 2117 Los Padillas Rd SW
Due to state public health emergency orders to minimize the risk of spreading coronavirus (COVID-19), seniors picking up food are asked to wear a mask, stay in the drive-thru line and remain in vehicles at all times. Please do not show up before 9:30 am to minimize traffic congestion.

All staff will adhere to safety precautions w/required PPE, and staff will place food into the seniors vehicle trunk. There will be one way in and out of the event.
