Mission: The mission of the UNM Center for Injury Prevention Research and Education (CIPRE) is to conduct research and education programs that will result in fewer injuries and deaths from accidental and intentional causes. It provides support, information, and guidance to local advocacy groups, medical professionals, and other individuals working to build safer communities. ABQ CiQlovia 2020 - Get into it!! πŸ‘

After reviewing and consulting with public health professionals, we have decided to continue our Sunday event.

Here are the guidlines we are committed to implementing and enforcing on all stations which align with recent public health orders (sample layout of a recharge station):

βœ… No more than two people staffing a station at a time.
βœ… Face coverings worn at all times.
βœ… Only 1-2 people allowed to approach the station at one time.
βœ… No visit to the stations should exceed 5 minutes. Stations are strictly quick stops.
βœ… Masks are REQUIRED by everyone over the age of 2 at all times. No exceptions.
βœ… 6ft spacing markers will be on the ground to denote social distancing required between people while they are in line to access table.
βœ… Hand sanitizer will be made available.
βœ… Activities at stations are currently limited to picking up giveaways and swag from various organizations.

In order for these to be successful we need to be good neighbors and care for each other. Please follow these guidelines so we can have a safe, enjoyable time outside.

Below are the maps of routes in the participating neighborhoods:

This event will be subject to change as we continue obtaining guidance from public health professionals. We will continue to keep you updated! Thank you for your support and patience.

FYI - just received an email/note from AARP (Upcoming Transportation Workshop) Read more below!...
________

Age-Friendly Ambassadors,

Hello and good day! I want to invite you to participate in an exclusive virtual Transportation Workshop to be held September 15-16 from 11AM-2PM Mountain.

AARP Livable Communities will host the AARP Transportation Workshop in order to explore and strengthen transportation options that improve health, support vibrant neighborhoods, and connect people to economic, social and civic opportunities throughout their communities. It is structured to reinforce three core themes deemed to be of greatest importance to older adults: that transportation be SAFE, ACCESSIBLE, and RESILIENT. The event will be held entirely as a virtual/livestream event.

What differentiates AARP from other entities that explore transportation will be our focus on how transportation options can be enhanced to provide the best service for older adults, as well as how AARP’s unique programmatic and policy contributions can strengthen various modes, and coordination among them in order to deliver a more effective transportation network for all.

If you are interested in participating, you must email be back by close of business (5PM), Thursday, July 30, 2020. I apologize for the short turnaround.

Thanks!

On June 1, 2020, Albuquerque City Council adopted a resolution to create an Active Streets Initiative in Albuquerque (R-20-59). The goal of this initiative is to facilitate safe, socially-distanced outdoor recreation and increase space for walking and biking on neighborhood streets during the COVID-19 public health emergency.

This form is intended to provide the public with opportunities to share locations that they think Active Streets should be implemented. Note that this form does not guarantee that a proposed street or route will be implemented as an Active Street, but public input will help City staff identify appropriate locations.

Shared-Use Paths, Part 1: Etiquette | CyclingSavvy

As you may know, bike sales are up due to issues related to the pandemic.
Our local bike lanes and multi-use paths are getting a little extra use -- this is a good thing!
...But to keep a good thing going, exercising a little etiquette helps cultivate a safe culture of biking
and walking. // Most of you may be familiar with the following travel safe strategies, but as
bike/walk ambassadors of your community share this info with others as encouragement.
Peace and enjoy the ride or walk.

This is the first of two posts about how bicyclists and pedestrians can be safe and considerate on shared-use paths.

'A sense of superiority' may be why drivers of pricey cars have a problem with pedestrians

Take a peek at this story.
....Adding more bike lanes and traffic calming, or having an enforcement campaign probably won't change this type of driver mindset/behavior long-term, but what would? Consider some creative solutions to this issue that aren't divisive, but instead cultivate a safe and flexible transportation culture. If you want, let me know your thoughts.

Laws say drivers should yield to people crossing the street. But many drivers of fancy cars struggle to do so, a new study says.

3 ART bus, vehicle crashes this week

https://www.abqjournal.com/1398363/art-bus-involved-in-east-central-crash.html

Most likely you've heard the unfortunate news about ART.
...Geez!

Our community needs to come to terms with the fact we have a travel culture fraught with careless behavior.

The three (3) ART collisions that occurred this week are more examples of preventable crashes that happened due to carelessness and poor decision making.

Despite years of being top-ranking nationally for collisions and traffic deaths, our community still doesn't have consensus about a path forward or a community-wide response to shift our travel culture more towards safety.
----
...But at the end of all the editorial comments about ART, all the planner-speak about new travel patterns on Central, and all the politics about safe streets you gotta' ask the simple question: Why would anyone put themselves in the travel path of a BIG----BLUE----BUS?

Look For Me, looking for the BIG BLUE BUS. πŸ‘€
