In 1984, ARCA opened the La Paloma Greenhouse, creating a horticulture-focused work site and another opportunity for individuals to build skills through meaningful work. πŸ’šπŸ’›

Over the years, the greenhouse grew into an important part of ARCA and remains a familiar part of our community today.

More than 40 years later, La Paloma continues to grow more than plants. It continues to grow opportunities.

In 1979, we continued to open doors to greater independence and community connection. πŸ’šπŸ’›

As community-based living grew, individuals had more opportunities to make their own choices, work, and take part in everyday life in their communities.

A 1979 Albuquerque News article captured a glimpse of this changing landscape, including life in an ARCA group home and the growing opportunities available to individuals with disabilities.

It was another step toward greater independence, connection, and opportunity for the individuals we serve.

In 1974, we were opening new doors to community living. πŸ’šπŸ’›

Through community-based homes, individuals had opportunities to build independence while sharing everyday life with roommates, from preparing meals and taking care of their home to working and spending time in the community.

It was an important step in creating more opportunities for individuals to live, grow, and build meaningful lives in the communities they call home.
