Progressive Voter Alliance of Central New Mexico

Progressive Voter Alliance of Central New Mexico The PVA is a locally-based inclusive forum for progressive voters and activists. The Progressive Voter Alliance is an inclusive coalition of voters and activists, who actively support issues that promote social and economic justice, political equality, and environmental stewardship.

Our activities include a lively monthly meeting, work groups and a monthly Unified Action, in which we bring the full force of the PVA network to bear on behalf of progressive causes. You will receive only 2 e-mails a month from the PVA, one to invite you to the monthly meeting, and one to recap the completed monthly meeting.

Victory! Try as it may, the government can’t circumvent the Constitution in an effort to deter and punish asylum-seekers applying for protection.

This ruling will provide much-needed relief for people being detained in cruel and inhumane conditions while going through the asylum process.

Democracy Wins One as a Federal Court Strikes a Big Blow Against Gerrymandering - BillMoyers.com

"This case is an actual game-changer when it comes to undoing GOP gerrymandering nationwide."

Democracy has taken very hard hits in the first days of the Trump interregnum, as Donald Trump and the mandarins of his “alternative-fact” administration have spun fantasies about “voter fraud” that clearly does not exist; obsessed about the dubious legitimacy of a president who lost the popular vot...

"Martinez holds few open-ended news conferences, keeping tightlipped about any topic not on the agenda for the moment. Emails, phone calls and text messages to the public information officers are often ignored. Even program managers more often than not refuse to go on the record or discuss policy plans and objectives. Many claim they’ve been instructed not to talk to the press."

There are no shortages of warm and fuzzy profiles, photo opportunities and national press stories about New Mexico Gov. Susana Martinez, but access to the governor and her top cabinet-level officials is nearly impossible for local journalists.

Many of you know that PVA was started by Albuquerque Progressives as a locally-based inclusive forum for progressive voters and activists. In the beginning we had a strong support but we learned that there are a handful of progressive organizations doing some of the same work and we slowly disappeared from the spotlight. The only way this group can be revived is by doing something new and innovative which can influence politics, policy and progressive causes.

My questions right now are; should PVA re-start the conversation? Is there a place for a grass roots progressive voice out there? Is there anyone out there willing to commit some time to this cause?

IN ANTICIPATION OF GOVERNOR MARTINEZ’S STATE-OF-THE-STATE ADDRESS, DPNM WANTS TO WELCOME THE GOVERNOR TO NEW MEXICO

While Governor Martinez has been traveling outside of New Mexico, pursuing a future national political career and begging for campaign funds,

This Is The New Mexico This Governor Has Created In Just 3 Years:

--most partisan NM Governor ever elected with no desire or interest in working together to improve lives of 2 million residents

--Martinez ranked 49th of all Governors in job creation

-- Ranked near the lowest – 42nd in the nation – in projected job growth for 2014 (PEW Foundation)

--Still lacking approximately 40,000 jobs from its prerecession levels http://www.bizjournals.com/albuquerque/news/2014/01/16/econ-outlook-nation-recover-nm-lag.html?page=all

--50th in nation for the overall well-being of children (Annie E. Casey Foundation)

--1st in nation for child hunger; 2nd in nation for adult hunger (Feeding America study)

--Worst New Mexico economy in 80 years, huge job and population losses, record commercial real estate vacancies

--No viable education policies: same re-treads that have failed in state after state; then declared war on teachers

--Directed HSD Secretary to shut down 15 behavioral health providers; then outsourced to Arizona companies to do same services

--No plan for drought

--No plan or vision for New Mexico’s future

Governor Martinez, this is the state-of-the-state under your leadership.

New Mexico’s economy isn’t expected to grow by more than 1.6 percent over the next six years, and the state is still down about 40,000 jobs from its prerecession levels, Lee Reynis, director of the University of New Mexico’s Bureau of Business and Economic Research, said Thursday. Job growth is expe...
