Recent changes in the state public health order have allowed Bernalillo County to open some recreation facilities on a limited basis.

Bernalillo County emphasizes that any teams or individuals, with an approved use agreement for use of county facilities, must follow health safety guidelines that are still in place, such as social distancing (six feet), mandatory use of masks (even at outdoor facilities), and no more than 10 people, to include coaches or instructors, allowed to gather for practice or training. There is still no competition allowed at any facilities, per the state mandate.

BernCo Commission Passes Community Workforce Ordinance

BernCo commissioners have adopted a new county ordinance requiring community workforce agreements for public works projects in excess of $7 million.

Under the ordinance, the successful contract bidder on public works construction projects, that meet the ordinance criteria, will be required to sign a master labor agreement with the county directing the hire of New Mexico construction workforce before hiring out-of-state labor. The ordinance covers projects that employ three or more trades and the community workforce agreement requires that contractors provide workers with health benefits and worksite safety.

Bernalillo County CARE Campus Licensed for Crisis Triage Services

The Bernalillo County Department of Behavioral Health Services (The Behavioral Health Initiative) is proud to receive a permanent crisis triage center (CTC) license from the New Mexico Department of Health. The county is the second recipient of this CTC licensure in the State of New Mexico, and the only active license within the county.

The crisis triage center is located at the CARE campus at 5901 Zuni Rd SE, formerly known as the Metropolitan Addiction and Treatment Services center. This license will allow the county to provide crisis stabilization services. These services help close the gap between the needs of patients with outpatient and acute care needs.

El Camino Real de Tierra Adentro National Historic Trail within Bernalillo County, New Mexico

Bernalillo County, the City of Albuquerque, the National Park Service, and The University of New Mexico have partnered to prepare a conceptual plan that outlines a vision for the development of El Camino Real de Tierra Adentro National Historic Trail within Bernalillo County. The plan will include ideas for preservation and public use of the historic trail routes. The projects that will be recommended within the plan are intended to contribute towards tourism, economic development, and cultural preservation. An important goal of the plan is to provide communities along this historic route a way to tell their own stories and share elements of their history and culture that will make the visitor experience more comprehensive, authentic, and meaningful. We are asking for your input to:

Identify sites located along the historic route that can be developed for the public to visit, experience, and learn about the National Historic Trail.
Identify preferred routes for a multi-modal trail following the historic alignment.
