I’m proud of the campaign we ran and honored by the thousands of New Mexicans who stood behind us to protect our public lands, promote renewable energy, and increase revenue for our schools and hospitals. We said no to out-of-state oil and gas, and I will always be proud that we did the right thing.

Thank you to the many organizations and individuals who endorsed us and worked their tails off for what we believe in. I feel immense gratitude to every single supporter and to my campaign team.

In particular, I want to thank my beautiful family for supporting me and going through this with me. I love you all so much.

While the results did not turn out the way we had hoped, I am honored to have been on this journey.

New Mexico is special, and New Mexico’s public lands are special. I hope our next Land Commissioner will take this important job as seriously as I would have.

We voted as a family this morning, and I hope that you take the opportunity to vote too.

I’m running for Land Commissioner to protect our public lands, support public education, and stand up to big oil and gas.

I would be honored to have your support.

My opponent says that he doesn't control who supports him.

But he does control whether he'll accept oil and gas money, which he does.

And—if elected—he would control whether the State Land Office issues permits for data centers, which he said he would.

The issue isn't control; it's priorities.

A PAC supporting Juan de Jesus Sanchez III for state land commissioner received much of its funding from Chevron and other oil companies.

My supporters include the Sierra Club, Conservation Voters New Mexico, the Environmental Justice Caucus, and the Jane Fonda Climate PAC.

My opponent’s supporters include … Chevron.

To paraphrase an old saying: Show us who your friends are, and it will show us who you are.

"The choice is clear. He understands the complex path ahead for the Land Office… [and has] a substantive record of accomplishment. What’s more, McQueen is refusing oil & gas industry contributions. In the Democratic primary for commissioner of public lands, The New Mexican endorses Matthew McQueen."
