The 2026 National MLK Commissions Conference hosted by Arkansas MLK, Jr. Commission was an unforgettable experience. We had the opportunity to connect with Commissions across the nation, learn from dynamic speakers including the nephew of Dr. King, Isaac Newton Farris Jr. and our Executive Director was one of the recipients of the Dream Keeper Champion Award!

Our annual three-day Santo Domingo Arts and Crafts Market is coming up on Labor Day weekend. Join us for arts and crafts, Native dances, Native food vendors and the farmers market! Stop by the church for a cold treat and support their fundraising efforts.

🗓️ Dates and hours:
Saturday September 5, 2026 from 8am- 5pm
Sunday September 6, 2026 from 8am- 5pm
Monday September 7, 2026 from 8am- 4pm

📍The market is located on the south side of the church.

If you plan to attend, please be prepared for the heat stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water, keep yourself cool by wearing loose/lightweight clothing, bring sun protection such as sun sunscreen, umbrellas, neck coolers or hats.

63 years ago today, hundreds of thousands gathered in Washington, D.C., to demand a more just and equitable America and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. shared a dream that continues to call us forward.

The March on Washington and the “I Have a Dream” speech remind us that progress is not achieved by division, but by coming together across differences with courage, compassion, and a shared commitment to justice.

Here in New Mexico, that dream belongs to all of us. From our cities and rural communities to our pueblos and tribal communities, we carry forward a tradition of standing together for dignity, opportunity, and equality.

As the New Mexico Martin Luther King Jr. Commission commemorates this historic anniversary, let us recommit ourselves to the work still before us: building unity, confronting injustice and expanding opportunity.

The dream is not simply something to remember. It is something we must continue to live, protect, and make real—together.

Today, we honor the anniversary of the Voting Rights Act of 1965, a landmark civil rights law that transformed American democracy by prohibiting racial discrimination in voting and helping protect the fundamental right to cast a ballot.

Its passage was the result of generations of advocacy and the courage of people who organized, marched and demanded equal access to the ballot box.

Here in New Mexico, the fight for an inclusive democracy continues. Our state’s diverse communities reminds us that protecting access to the ballot means ensuring every eligible voter can participate and every voice can be heard.

The Voting Rights Act is more than history. It is a reminder that democracy depends on participation.

Stay informed. Stay engaged. Make a plan to vote. Support your community. Together, we strengthen our democracy, one voice, one vote and one election at a time.
