Explore Academy Albuquerque Explore Academy is a choice-based, college preparatory public charter school open to students in grad Nothing is for sale on this page.

Explore Academy is a free public high school established by state charter for students from Albuquerque and surrounding communities in central New Mexico. Each classroom course focuses on a limited number of state educational standards and lasts just twenty-two days with each student able to demonstrate proficiency on every standard at the end of each short course. Each course is offered in a numb

er of styles designed to draw out student interest, with popular books, sports, music, media, or other themes underlying classroom teaching and learning. Students choose the style of course they want to join in order to meet college-prepatory graduation requirements. What we offer is an interesting and free public high school education. Those in the Albuquerque area are invited to fill out an interest form at our website, www.exploreacademy.org. Free enrollment spaces are still available for the 2014-2015 academic year. If you do not happen to be in the Albuquerque area or do not have any high school age students, we who have worked so hard to create this unique school would be encouraged if you would like this page.

Over the past couple of weeks, we’ve had the privilege of celebrating some incredible milestones across our school community as our Kindergarten, 5th grade, and Class of 2026 graduates marked the completion of an important chapter in their educational journey.

From our youngest learners taking their first big step forward, to our 5th graders preparing for the transition to our 6–12 campus, to our seniors crossing the stage and becoming Explore Academy alumni, each graduate has shown growth, perseverance, curiosity, and determination along the way.

We are proud of everything they have accomplished and excited to see what comes next as they continue pursuing their goals, passions, and dreams.

Choosing the right school means finding a place where your child is known, challenged, and empowered to grow.

For Mollie and her daughter Aurora, Explore Academy stood out because of its small class sizes, opportunities for advanced learning, and a school culture that encourages students to take ownership of their education. The hands-on FLAVOR projects, strong art program, and supportive teachers have helped Aurora continue to grow both academically and personally.

Senior Spotlight 🎓

Meet Breana Marquez-Aragon!

After graduation, Breana will be attending the University of New Mexico to pursue a degree in Nursing.

One of Breana’s favorite memories from her time at Explore Academy was her chemistry classes, from the experiments to the friendships and experiences made along the way.

Breana credits Mr. AK, Mr. Ayres, Mr. Urenda, and Ms. Kristi as some of the teachers who inspired and motivated her most throughout high school.

Breana shares that Explore Academy helped prepare her for the future by teaching her how to stay organized and manage her work effectively.

Fun fact: Breana is very sporty and enjoys going on runs. 🏃‍♀️

This season brings celebrations, milestones, and exciting new beginnings across both campuses as we get ready to honor the hard work and accomplishments of our students.

Senior Spotlight 🎓

Meet Elise Hielkema!

After graduation, Elise will be heading to New Mexico State University to study criminal justice with a focus in forensics.

Elise credits Ms. CJ as one of her biggest inspirations, sharing that her forensic classes helped strengthen Elise’s passion for pursuing the field in college and beyond.

Her proudest accomplishment? She completed courses forensics, psychology, and social studies during her time at Explore Academy.

Elise shares that Explore helped prepare her for the future by teaching her how to advocate for herself and grow more confident in her abilities.

Fun fact: Elise is in a band where she sings and plays guitar. 🎸
