We are New Mexico’s largest food pantry. More and more of Albuquerque’s working poor are struggling to feed themselves and their families. Money is tight for everyone, but one illness, a reduction of work hours, or any setback can leave a family wondering where their next meal is coming from. We are in constant need of donations of money and food. We rely entirely on donations and volunteers in our mission.

The Storehouse Board of Directors is a team of people who govern and guide our organization. From all walks of life, they bring financial, operational, and management experience to support the food pantry. This week, a few of our board members also came to the Storehouse to pack boxes of food for families in need. Thank you Kim and Roger! We appreciate you and your helping hands.

We were thrilled to meet with students from the International School @Mesa del Sol. They learned about food insecurity and the Storehouse during a zoom meeting and then ventured down to the food pantry to learn more about operations first hand. We have a bright future ahead of us with critical thinkers such as these amazing students. 💛

Keep jumping for joy!

These cute cookies are a sign of the times, aren't they? We are sharing these masked sugar cookies with permission from the baker and decorator, who also happens to be a supporter of the Storehouse. We hope you're smiling and happy behind your mask, too. Happy Monday! 😃☀️

If you've woken up today to an empty refrigerator and a bare pantry, wondering where your next meal might come from, you are not alone. New Mexico ranks among the worst for adult hunger and one in 4 children is going hungry in our state. That's the whole reason the Storehouse exists and has for decades - to feed people in need. Come down. We are open today from 9 am to noon. Just bring an ID and you will leave with a cart full of food. If you can't come today, we are also open Wednesdays and Fridays 9 am to noon. #hunger #oneABQ

Cherokees become the first US-based tribe to deposit traditional heirloom seeds in the Arctic vault

Who knew there was a doomsday vault full of the world's seeds so that we can ensure a variety of foods can be grown again after a disaster? It does seem like a good idea for 2020, right? Glad they are involving people from so many communities. Keep planting those seeds of hope everyone. We are going to get through this together.

No Native American tribe has ever received an invitation to store its traditional heirloom seeds in the Svalbard Global Seed Vault.

The election, the pandemic, and economics are stressful. Instead, today we are offering these amazing amazing food masterpieces for you to view. This chef is a patient and talented person who creates art from ordinary foods. Bonus points if you even ponder trying to create some of your own. It would be a pretty good distraction. Keep breathing everyone and if you need food come see us. We are open Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from 9 am to noon. Farmers Markets are still going across the state. Don't forget, you get more fruits and vegetables when you spend your SNAP EBT Card dollars at participating farmers' markets, farm stands, and grocery stores. For example, if you spend $10 from your SNAP EBT Card at a participating outlet, you'll get another $10 to buy fresh fruits and vegetables grown in New Mexico. If you spend $25 from your SNAP EBT Card, you'll get another $25 for fresh New Mexico-grown fruits and vegetables. Good for you and good for local farmers, too.

Did you know that subsidized crops affect the cost and nutritional value of food in the US? Corn subsidies, for instance, make processed foods cheaper and more abundant. Americans eat more processed foods than people in other countries, and our health is negatively impacted. There are programs to combat this issue such as the double up food bucks here in New Mexico that allows SNAP recipients to double their dollars if they use their benefits at farmers market and other participating vendors that sell primarily fresh and nutritious produce. The Storehouse also provides fresh fruits and vegetables for our clients. Fresh food is an important way to get nutrients that help you stay or even get healthier. Come see us today and get some. We are open from 9 am to noon Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays.

An accurate count matters to New Mexico because the state receives $3,745 per person from the federal government to fund schools, hospitals, roads, and other public works. Getting it right is good for all of us. Share with your family, friends, and neighbors. Thank you!

Three local restaurants helped to support three non profits. #EatOuttoLiftUp Our biggest hugs of gratitude are sent to Hollow Spirits/Chef Tristin, Fork and Fig and Tako Ten. (The meal was over the top yummy, by the way!) It all began with the vision from the lovely Dara Sophia. You made this happen! We are so proud to be a part of a loving community who comes together for a great cause. Thank you to all who supported the Storehouse today, including our amazing board member Nathan Sanchez and wife Jenn. 💛 Love grows.

Bosque School has chosen to gift time at the Storehouse, yet again! We enjoyed seeing these lovely faces for a few Saturdays. CAFS (Community Activists for Food Security) students and staff came together to assist with critical thinking about operational updates for the winter, while also helping to make food boxes. We love our community. 💛 Thank you Bosque School! Your heart for our mission is amazing.

Happy Taco Tuesday everyone! Keep smiling. We're going to get through these tough times, even if there are no taco trucks roaming the streets. The Storehouse is open 9 am to noon Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday this week. Unemployment remains at a record high and lots of folks have run out of unemployment benefits. If you and your family need free groceries we are here to help. Come by and see us to get meat, fruits and veggies, dairy products, and shelf stable items, too. Yes, we are pre-packing due to COVID, but you'll get a big carts of groceries. You'll be glad you came by. Please share with others who need the services of our food pantry. Thanks!

On this #MotivationMonday, help us raise funds for the Storehouse and take part in the easiest fundraiser ever. One for 5, a delicious IPA brewed in collaboration by Steel Bender Brewyard Sierra Blanca Brewing Company and Second Street Brewery is going fast. When you buy a pint at any of the brewers' taprooms or a six pack at Albertsons Market, you help feed hungry New Mexicans. Every dollar raised provides 5 meals, which is how it got it's name.
Shelby from Steelbender says it so well... "we each can do our small part to help our neighbors in need." Buy some at Albertsons today, or try some at the breweries. Thanks!

So many of you have asked for ways in which to support us! The need is beyond belief and we appreciate all the community does to support our mission.

This is an awesome opportunity and we REALLY need your help to make this successful! It’s a competition between restaurants, with Hollow Spirits supporting the Storehouse. By eating in or getting take out at Hollow Spirits on October 4th, you will be giving back to our Albuquerque community while also enjoying a scrumptious meal! Profits support the Storehouse. Remember- $1 buys 5 meals! Thank you Hollow Spirits for giving back when we need the care of our hungry.

Make sure you pre-purchase your tickets by October 1.

Kid Learn A Very Hard Lesson About 100% Unsweetened Cacao

2020: You think it's gonna be great and then...😂
We all know so many children who have tried cocoa or baking chocolate only to be massively disappointed. (Some of us have been those kids!) Here's hoping this year continues to improve and that we remember that every day isn't perfect. They are like the ingredients of a cake, none of which are great when considered by themselves. Heck, even sugar isn't fantastic on its own. But, when you add everything up, it can be pretty sweet. At the Storehouse we believe in helping others through those tough times and helping them remember there can be sweet days ahead. Thanks for your support in doing our work feeding hungry families.

The Storehouse greatly appreciates our senior volunteers. Several dedicated ladies come to the pantry Mondays and Tuesdays from 7:30 am to noon. To reduce their health risk they come when the pantry is not open. They pack food in boxes and bags for our clients. Whether that's veggies, dairy products, meats, or a box of shelf-stable items, it is valued work at a time when we need it the most. Both of these volunteers have helped about 10 hours per week, which together adds up to a half time employee hour-wise. Without their assistance, we would not be able to move as much food. If you're interested in coming to help, please email [email protected].

This pantry takes a village to run, but we know we'll get through these tough times together.

This map shows the percentage of households that received SNAP benefits in the US in 2016. The darker the green, the more families that need help feeding their families every day. While this data is 4 years old, the trend continues. With the current pandemic, even more families are going hungry. The Storehouse plays an important role in the community providing extra nutritional support. Every dollar you give provides 5 meals for hungry families. Every contribution helps your neighbors make sure their kids get the food they need.

If you are a senior or a person with a disability, we also know a free resource that can help you sign up for SNAP and other governmental benefits and does free screenings to see how much you qualify for. Just visit: connecttobenefits.com . Their service is available statewide.

Salsas battle online in State Fair competition

Missing the State Fair this year? We usually benefit from the Asbury Pie Cafe, so we will be for sure. Here's some good news through: You can still participate in one of the most popular fair events, the epic Battle of the Salsas! The battle has gone online in a series of brackets that will run from now through September 25th. Vote for your favorites and cheer them on. Head over the Expo NM State Fair page to vote. https://www.facebook.com/newmexicostatefair

We know New Mexicans feel strongly about their salsas. Let your opinion be known and have some fun while you're at it! You can also make some fair food at home just for fun. We're all doing our best to enjoy 2020 despite it's limitations, aren't we?

Can my friend pick up food for me? I am elderly and in poor health. If she can, does she need to bring any proof that I am low income? Thanks.
Would it be possible for my care giver to pick up food for me? Would she need anything to prove I'm low income? I only leave my apartment to go to doctors' appointments, and then I travel by the VA Transport.
