Happy National Puppy Day!

We are celebrating! We hope you are too.

Established in 2006, National Puppy Day is a paw-some day for all dog enthusiasts to celebrate unconditional love and fawn over the undeniably cute furballs that bring so much happiness into this world. While we’re all softies when it comes to our four-legged friends, today is also designed to raise awareness about puppy mills and help prospective pet owners consider adoption.

National Puppy Day and National Dog Day are now great opportunities to adopt a dog because shelters typically have the highest intake of dogs around summertime. With 30 to 40 animals entering the shelter daily, we need public support to help save lives, and these national holidays do just that — by encouraging and reminding people to adopt, donate, and love their animals more every year.

If you are interested in finding the perfect pet, view our available pets at https://www.adoptapet.com/adoption_rescue/105603-bernalillo-county-animal-care-sevices-albuquerque-new-mexico?page=1 today!

We are starting this week off with a bang by bringing you a gorgeous new cat who is ready to be adopted.

Meet Sabine!

She is 4 years old and ready to cuddle.

Sabine wants to present her adorable, squishable, kissable face for your consideration. This sweet girl came from a hoarding situation, so not much is known about her background. She spent the past month, afraid of her new life and watching us from afar. Recently, Sabine has decided that we must be “pretty okay” because she has blossomed in to a social and attention loving girl. If you don’t have free hands to pet her with, don’t worry, she is content to rub up against whatever part of you she has access to.

She loves to get pets and cuddles, and has done well with the other cats in our communal rooms. Sabine will need adopters that understand she will need some time to adjust to a new home, but the payoff will be worth the wait!

If you have been waiting for your own living version of a Squishmallow, fill out an interest form and meet our lovely Sabine! We would be happy to schedule you an appointment.

Hey! Hey! Hey! It's Friday!

Meet Walter. He is our Foster Friday Spotlight.

Walter came to us as a stray. It was clear when he arrived there might be a few things going on with this older gentleman. Our medical staff figured out he had severe dental disease, some nasty ear infections, in addition to your usual geriatric issues such as diminished vision, lumps and arthritis.

He was available for about a month, waiting for his forever family. Unfortunately he was often overlooked due to his age and health issues.

Walter went to one of our awesome foster homes to get a bit of a break from the shelter. He didn’t really seem to know how to play with toys or anything along those lines but he absolutely adored his dog and cat foster brothers. He also adored his foster mom! Often times she would find him keeping his eye on her, peeking around the corner to make sure she wasn’t too far off from him! After some time with his new foster, the family they decided to make it a permanent thing and made it official by adopting Walter. Now he enjoys relaxing walks where he gets to sniff all the things!

Someone fostered Walter and in doing so made a difference. They saved his life.

Are you looking to make a difference? You can join us by helping provide a temporary home for pets in need by filling out a Foster Interest Form today!

Hot off the Press!

Vinny is ready to meet you!
He is just 1 ½ years old and 32 pounds.

Are you looking for a fun loving hiking buddy in a smaller package? Vinny is your guy! This sweet and affectionate cattle dog mix was surrendered when his owner could no longer care for him. He lived in a home with younger children and did well- he can be a little shy at first, but his personality has started to shine now that he has adjusted. Vinny’s favorite things were going for walks and playing fetch. Vinny has done well meeting new dogs here at the shelter, and could be a great buddy for your dog. He will need an active home that wants a dog to keep up with their lifestyle.

If Vinny sounds like what you’ve been missing, fill out an interest card today! We would be happy to schedule you an appointment.

It's #FosterFriday!

Meet Creep.

Creep came in with eleven other Chihuahuas. They all grew up together in a car and it’s possible he didn’t know life could be any different. His previous owners felt he was a little bit ‘different’ and named him Creep.

Once he arrived at BCACS it was obvious there were a few medical issues with little Creep. Our medical staff determined he was born with hydrocephalus and possibly even a liver shunt.

Creep ended up going to an amazing foster home to monitor seizures and to treat his demodex mange. With his foster family he learned how good life could be outside of a car. He learned how to make friends with other dogs and even cats! Now he lives a very happy life playing with his new furry brothers and sisters and still enjoys a fun car ride from time to time!

Someone fostered Creep and in doing so made a difference and saved his life.

Are you looking to make a difference? You can join us by helping provide a temporary home for pets in need by filling out a Foster Interest Form today!

We need your help!

Do you recognize this dog?

This sweetie pie has clearly been well loved and we know that there must be someone out there who is missing their baby. He may have been lost while hiking in the Bosque as he was found on one of the bike trails by a Good Samaritan. He is microchipped, but unfortunately the chip was never registered and there is no way to access the information from the implant facility at this time.

We are turning to social media to work its magic and find this sweet boy his home! If this is your dog, or you know who his family is, he is located at the Bernalillo County Animal Care and Resource Center.

His animal ID# for reference is A029642.

Please e-mail any proof of ownership to [email protected] or call (505)314-0281.

Hey! Hey! Hey! Hey!"

Cat or Dog, We Got You Covered!

Now stop right there! No more scrolling!

Fostering animals is, simply put, saving lives. When you become a foster parent, you volunteer to keep a homeless pet in your home temporarily until they go to a forever home. You may even fall in love with them. Fostering can be done through us!

While most people choose to foster dogs or cats, there are also rescues for rabbits and other animals. Many people come up with excuses not to foster. They think they’re too busy, or they don’t want to get attached to an animal they’ll have to give up in a month or so. We believe that with a little preparation and that by working with our growing foster program, most people, like YOU, would make a great foster parent.

Now that we got your attention. You can join us by helping provide a temporary home for pets in need by filling out a Foster Interest Form today!

I would like to give a big thanks to Bernalillo County Animal Care and Resource Center The employee who assisted my boyfriend and I was great and we found the best companion for our dog. 🥰
Please share! We lost our baby, Skippyjon Jones. We're in Rio Rancho, on Ivory Rd. near Lisbon and Tula Dr. (close to Southern and Unser). He got out the night of 1/13.21. He's almost 4. He's a Siamese/Egyptian Mau mix, white with grey and darker grey on the tail. Blue eyes. He's neutered and microchipped. PLEASE HELP! We're devastated!
When on earth is this man allowed to torture a dog for MONTHS and he's still walking the street?? This is terrifyingly violent behavior. https://www.krqe.com/news/albuquerque-metro/albuquerque-familys-ring-camera-shows-neighbor-shooting-their-dog-with-pellet-gun/?fbclid=IwAR3v08OZXUooOqUxykXtm2EIS2X0o-9WCBNy_44iBVtpkzi45-zFPEm-hu0
UPDATE - Jagger, my lost Pomeranian, may be with a homeless couple in ABQ. Please see latest text from an ABQ community member. My daughter works in the ABQ Uptown plaza center and she'll keep a look out in that area. If you happen to see a homeless couple, and they have a Pomeranian that really looks like Jagger, please let me know where you see them at. If my daughter sees them, she will take pictures and I know of community outreach affiliates willing to help me trade the reword of $250 for Jagger. If the homeless couple does have Jagger, they found him and likely trying their best to care for him.
$250 reward for safe return of 4 mo Male Pomeranian - Jagger. Please see flyer in comments for details.
Can't get anyone to help with abused animals in the neighborhood.
Bernalillo County has very limited Animal Care Resources. Animals are suffering abuse with little to no recourse.
Can I please ask what happened to Pepe ID A027073??
My cat is missing. He is microchipped and neutered. Please let me know if he shows up.
Hi there could I get some background on this dog. I know he has been at two shelters and is HW+. Is he good with children and other dogs? I have an interest from California. Would you adopt or rescue to California?? https://www.adoptapet.com/pet/29052402-albuquerque-new-mexico-shar-pei?fbclid=IwAR160I9UbFuE5oQof802L2opJJ6tTHgw_pIkRO4OeqFtv6-dAH2rhS26EUs
