ABUSE ISN’T ALWAYS OBVIOUS.

Intimate partner domestic violence is not always physical. It can include emotional abuse, manipulation, coercive control, financial abuse, intimidation, or isolation.

In LGBTQ+ relationships, abuse may also include:
• Threats to “out” a partner
• Using gender identity or sexual orientation as manipulation
• Isolation from affirming friends, family, or community
• Fear of not being believed or supported

Healthy relationships are built on respect, trust, safety, and dignity — not fear or control. If something doesn’t feel right, trust yourself. Help is available.

Today, we honor Juneteenth, a day that marks the end of slavery in the United States and celebrates the resilience, strength, and contributions of Black communities throughout history. Juneteenth is more than a date in history—it is a testament to the enduring strength of people who continued to hope, resist, and persevere even when freedom was delayed.

Juneteenth is a reminder that freedom is not a single moment in time—it is an ongoing pursuit of justice, dignity, safety, and opportunity for all. As we reflect on this important day, we recognize the generations who fought for liberation and the work that continues to build a future where every person can live free from violence, oppression, and fear.

May we continue to listen, learn, and take action in support of equity and justice in our communities.

No one should have to live in fear of a partner with access to a gun.

Today, we to raise awareness about the deadly intersection of intimate partner violence and gun violence and to stand with victims and survivors everywhere.

We know survivor safety must remain at the center of these conversations. When an abusive partner has access to a firearm, the risk of homicide increases by 500%, making firearm accountability a critical component of domestic violence prevention and survivor safety.

Every statistic represents a person, a family, a child, or a community whose life has been impacted by domestic violence.

Nearly 20 people every minute experience physical abuse by an intimate partner. One in four women and one in nine men will experience severe intimate partner violence in their lifetime. Yet only a fraction of those injured receive medical care, and thousands of calls for help are made every day across the country.

These numbers are more than data points—they are a reminder that domestic violence is a widespread public health and community issue that demands our attention, compassion, and action.

By supporting survivors, strengthening services, investing in prevention, and speaking out against abuse, we can help create safer communities where everyone has the opportunity to live free from violence.

If you or someone you know needs support, help is available. You are not alone. We are here for you.
