On June 16, 2025 just before 2:00 pm, AFR was dispatched to a motor vehicle collision on I-25 Southbound at Coal involving a flatbed tow truck and a semi-truck pulling a fuel tanker. Engine 1 arrived on scene and confirmed a two vehicle collision that resulted in the fuel tanker partially hanging off the Interstate over Coal. Engine 1 established command, upgraded the call and requested the HTR Task Force from Station 4 to respond. The Hazmat Task Force from Station 13 also responded due to the placarded fuel hauler. The fuel trailer was empty. Neither driver involved was injured in the collision. AFR crews responded on the Interstate and also on Coal. Engine companies pulled multiple lines in case fire suppression was needed. Multiple heavy wreckers were on scene along with NM DOT’s heavy equipment to secure, stabilize and separate the vehicles. A bridge inspector also responded to evaluate the bridge. There was some damage to the Jersey barrier but no damage to the structure of the bridge. Crews were still working to clear the Interstate and southbound lanes will be opened as soon as it is safe. Be patient and traffic will be rolling soon. No additional information is available.
