It is often forgotten that and her tender are two pieces of equipment that work together to create locomotion. That's until you pull the two apart for a drawbar inspection, and there is distance between the two.
Last weekend, the engine and her tender were separated so the drawbars could be carefully removed and inspected as per the FRA regulation. A sight that was quite common during the restoration is recreated once a year to guarantee that 26 is operating safely.

It's time once again for the biggest railroad event in Albuquerque!
On September 26th and 27th, New Mexico Railroad Days 2026 will take place at the South Albuquerque Railyards, hosted by New Mexico Heritage Rail. Come celebrate the history of railroading and its importance to Albuquerque and New Mexico! See 2926 in person, fully steamed and on display, and learn what's new at the Albuquerque South Railyard.
Admission is free, so save the date for NMRD 2026!

A Member's Minute
There are plenty of volunteers behind the scenes whose sole purpose is to keep the restoration site operational. George D. is one of those volunteers! He watched 2926 get pulled from the park and, when he retired, he joined in 2012 to help keep her rolling! As a former US Army structural engineer, he's a jack of all trades within the organization. One of his main big roles in the NMHR is taking care of our tool crib. He keeps our tools tidy, clean, and if there's ever a tool missing, he finds it! One of the many important jobs within the organization.
