We've shown you one of the engineers that operate 2926, but what about the boots on the ground? Meet Jeff, The Brakeman. The keeper of switch keys and the master of hand signals. sometimes you'll see him behind the throttle but he's usually all over the place switching points, coupling cars and guiding 500 tons of ATSF bred steel.

Maintenance promotion and events all take a army of volunteer's to keep the engine rolling. once people stop coming to work the fire in her boiler dies and everything stops. Just because the restoration is over does not mean we don't need your help. We need volunteers to work at the site, help with promotion, help with events, and help with the store both at events, online and onsite.
If you wanna help to keep her rolling become a volunteer today!

On our second day at the Albuquerque rail yard Alex (Vice president of SBRHS) Gave our chief mechanical officer Rick a commemorative plaque from our great friends over at the San Bernadino Railroad historical society with Santa Fe 3751. The plaque celebrates Ricks 15 years as CMO at the NMHR. Rick is one of the great men who brought 2926 from rust to operation. He started out of course like all of us, turning wrenches on 2926.

Some of you saw our whistle in the machine shop video and thought it was a audio trick, it wasn't. last Wednesday on June 26th ATSF 2926 hit the high iron for the second time and made her way to the Albuquerque railyard.
She rolled passed the Alvarado train station and for the first time in 70 years she blew her whistle next to the locomotive shops where she was serviced during her career.
The Duchess rumbled through BNSF's yard and than pulled forward on the new lead in track for the old Albuquerque turntable. For the first time since 1956 she sat next to the turntable and the old foundation of the roundhouse.
This old complex would of been 2926s home when she wasn't operating or when she was held for 3 years in the roundhouse, before she was put in Coronado park.
This is the biggest step she has taken in her preservation career and every volunteer should be proud of this huge accomplishment.
Expect a video soon.

Yesterday we spent the morning filling up 2926 with powerful H2O in preparation for our next run. We don't have a water tower so we use fire hydrants to supply 26's boiler and tender with water.

support us by donating at our website at https://2926.us/ every bit counts!

On the 18th we had our membership meeting at the albuquerque Turntable. We all had the chance to look at the brand new turntable lead. The track was put in for us by the city of albuquerque and the state of New Mexico. This track is the first track development in last 50 years in the south end of the railyard! It is a huge milestone that shows the dedication of our volunteers, the help of the city and the state and the first steps for the development of the railyard. Thank you all for your support

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — “At 9:01 a.m. on Sept. 30, I opened the switch to the main line and No. 2926 backed out under its own power for the first time since it was in steam back in 1953,” proudly stated by Mathew Casford, chief of rail operations for New Mexico Steam Locomotive & Railroad Historic...
