CHOKECHERRY CANYON FALL CLEANUP — AUGUST 29! 🌲

Come out and help us keep Chokecherry Canyon clean! Bring your family, friends, team, or business and volunteer for as much of the day as you can.

We’ll provide trash bags, water, and sunscreen. Volunteers are encouraged to bring gloves, tools, trucks, and trailers if available.

Lunch will be prepared by the AE Properties Team and Tio Earl’s BBQ at the pavilion across the road.

Earn raffle tickets throughout the day! The drawing will take place at 4 PM, with refreshments, prizes for the kids, and a BIG PRIZE you don’t have to be present to win.

SANTA FE, N.M. — The governor’s office is looking for some ambitious high school students with ideas on how to clean up their communities and break some bad habits.

The New Mexico Department of Transportation is recruiting high school juniors and seniors for its Land of Enchantment Young Ambassadors program. This is part of the governor’s “Breaking Bad Habits” anti-littering initiative.

Students selected for the program will be tasked with organizing and leading a community cleanup event, along with the capstone project during the school year.

Organizers say last year’s group mobilized 300 volunteers to collect nearly eight tons of trash. We’re really looking for those students who are seeing issues in their community and want the pathway to address them.

“We’re there to kind of mentor, to provide the guardrails and guidelines but they are the ones that are driving these projects,” said Dara Romero, special projects coordinator with the governor’s office.

Organizers say each young ambassador will receive a $3,000 stipend at the end of the program. Last year’s group had 14 ambassadors but organizers are hoping to double that number this year. They’re still looking for more applicants outside of the Albuquerque metro area.

“We would love to have representation from every county across the state. We know there’s some incredible students out there and we’d love to get them involved in this program,” Romero said.

Interested students have until Friday to submit an application, which does include a resume and a reference letter. They will announce this year’s group of ambassadors in September.

New Mexico high school students entering their junior or senior year can apply to become a 2026–2027 Land of Enchantment Young Ambassador. Selected youth will lead community cleanups and beautification projects and receive a $3,000 participation stipend upon completion.

Applications are open through August 21, 2026.

Last night Albuquerque Isotopes game we had a great time connecting with our community. We were excited to welcome many new people who took the pledge to help keep New Mexico clean and litter free. We also spoke with students interested in making a difference through the New Mexico Young Ambassador program, encouraging the next generation of environmental leaders to get involved.
