Alburgh Volunteer Fire Department AVFD is a volunteer, non-profit organization whose goal is to provide Fire, EMS, Marine, Heavy Rescue and HazMat coverage to the residents of Alburgh, VT.

The Alburgh Vol. Fire Dept. is an all volunteer, non-profit organization whose primary goal is to provide Fire, Ems, Marine Rescue, Heavy Rescue, and HazMat Operations coverage to the residents of Alburgh in a safe and professional manner. We also provide a fire prevention presentation to our local elementary school each year during fire prevention week in October. AVFD is also the primary ambulance service to the residents of Alburgh and Isle LaMotte. We also provide Mutual Aid to the surrounding towns in Vermont, New York, and Canada. The organization was chartered in 1968 and has since been in operation. The AVFD is unique in that it is not owned by the town. The AVFD is owned and operated by all of the members who belong to the organization. The AVFD belongs to the Grand Isle County Mutual Aid Association as well as the Clinton County Mutual aid Association. We also host the annual North Country International Fire Training School, which takes place the first weekend of June.

On Saturday, September 12th the Alburgh Volunteer Fire Department will be hosting our 3rd annual Calcutta, to be held at the Alburgh American Legion. 4pm-5pm: Happy Hour, 5pm-6pm: Dinner, 6pm: Balls drawn. 98 tickets will be sold for $50.00 each. There will also be a raffle ball and an auction ball at the time of the event. This ticket will include the chance to win the $1000 grand prize and some smaller prizes along the way. The ticket will also include a bbq chicken dinner for 2. $25.00 cash will be awarded on every 10th ball pulled or you can choose to keep your ball alive for the grand prize. Tickets on sale now! See any AVFD member if interested. All proceeds (except for the cash bar supplied by the legion) will benefit Alburgh VOLUNTEER Fire Department.

Resources for Dry Wells or Water Shortages:

Homeowners: If your private well or spring is low or dry, visit the Health Department’s Drought and Your Well web page for short- and long-term solutions, or call the Health Department at 802-489-7339. If supplemental drilling is needed, DEC can provide permitting guidance and may be able to provide loans through the Onsite Loan Program that can help pay for a new well. Droughts can also affect water quality in many ways. The Health Department recommends testing your private well or spring if you notice changes in your water, like cloudiness, color or smell. Order the Vermont Homeowner Testing Package online or call 800-660-9997.
Financial Assistance: Homeowners may be eligible for financial assistance for private water system improvements.
