Update to Vehicle Crash Near Pedestrian Bridge on Alcoa Highway

On October 15, 2026, at approximately 3:07 p.m., officers with the Alcoa Police Department (APD), along with personnel from the Alcoa Fire Department (AFD) and American Medical Response (AMR), responded to a motor vehicle crash on southbound US 129 Bypass near the Alcoa Pedestrian Bridge.

Upon arrival, first responders determined the incident involved three vehicles. The driver of Vehicle 2 which was rear-ended, a male from Maryville, Tennessee, was transported by AMR to the University of Tennessee Hospital, where they pronounced him deceased.

The APD Crash Reconstruction Team, in coordination with the Criminal Investigative Section, responded to the scene and is actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.

No additional information is available at this time. The APD is not releasing the name of the deceased to allow the family privacy.

PLEASE BE AWARE:

UPDATE 6:57 p.m.: Both car crash scenes have been cleared and the southbound lanes are open.

UPDATE 4:38 PM: There has been a second crash at Airway Drive near the U-Haul Facility. The Southbound Lanes of Alcoa Highway are shut down at this location.

The Alcoa Highway Southbound Lanes are completely closed at the bypass exit for Hall Road or SR 129 toward Walmart.

A two-vehicle crash has closed the roadway near the pedestrian bridge while officers and firefighters are on scene. Please find alternate routes, including the Hunt Road exit or Hall Road exit, as this area will remain closed until the scene is cleared.

The APD will provide updates as more information is available.

Slow down and look twice around schools and bus stops. Kids walking to class, to the bus, or to a friend's house are counting on drivers to see them. A little extra awareness in our neighborhoods can make a big difference. We're all going somewhere. Let's look out for each other along the way.

A few extra seconds at a crosswalk can save a life. Crosswalks are where drivers and pedestrians meet, and awareness on both sides matters. A quick look and a little patience help make every crossing safer. Watch for me. I'll watch for you.
