This is why you shouldn't place lithium-ion batteries in the trash. Seven lithium-ion batteries (the type that you use in hand tools) were placed in a plastic cat litter pail, sealed with the lid, and thrown in a household dumpster. On trash pick-up day along comes the truck and empties the household dumpster into the back of the truck. The operator starts the compactor and there is a small explosion and instant fire in the trash area. The operator quickly reverses the compactor and manually throws the burning trash into the middle of the road. The quick actions of the operator saved the truck from burning. Lithium-ion batteries should be recycled, not discard in the trash.
