🚒 Your local volunteer fire department may need you — even if you have absolutely no desire to run into a burning building.

When people hear that their local fire company needs volunteers, they often assume that means becoming a firefighter.

It doesn't.

Volunteer fire companies need all kinds of people, with all kinds of skills.

You may be able to help with fundraising, community events, administrative work, social media, photography, grant writing, maintenance, traffic control/fire police, auxiliary activities, bookkeeping, recruitment, or simply lending an extra set of hands when there's work to be done.

Maybe you have a professional skill that could benefit your department. Maybe you're great at organizing events. Maybe you can cook. Maybe you have a few hours a month and just want to do something meaningful in your community.

There may be a place for you.

Our volunteer fire departments aren't just emergency services. They're community organizations made up of neighbors who choose to give their time to help other neighbors.

And keeping them strong takes more than firefighters.

If you've ever thought, “I'd like to help, but I don't know what I could do,” stop by your local fire company and ask.

You might be surprised how much you have to offer. ❤️🚒

BIG SHOUT OUT to the AVFD & EMS and the TOWN OF ALDERSON STAFF for another great July 4th celebration. So many of you turned out and helped with so many of the events and activities including the parade, river events, fireworks, field events, 5K, Rodeo, and so much more. Along with all the events many EMS calls were handled including an LZ for a critical patient and a large mutual aid fire in a surrounding community. Let’s not forget our brothers on the hill, Tri County Fire Company who were also key people in this weeks activities. They did a tremendous amount of work.

Thank you to all of those that tirelessly gave their time, money and expertise to provide a great celebration for our community. Thank you to the 4th of July committee for all the many hours of planning, discussing, deciding and executing such a complex event for our town.

Thank you to everyone that supported any of the events even in the smallest way you are appreciated.

As a great friend always said, I am Alderson Proud!

Have you thought about volunteering for your community but didn’t know where to start?

Alderson Volunteer Fire Department is always looking for volunteers.

Firefighting not your thing? That’s ok! We have other opportunities that might just be what you are looking for.

We always need certified drivers for EMS. In order to become a certified driver there are a few required classes (Emergency Vehicle Operations, CPR/First Aid, Mass Casualties and Hazmat Awareness). All of these classes will be given in the local area.

Come out and join us. If you are interested in volunteering and/or becoming a member, please contact any member, call the fire house at 304-445-7420 or Chief Vandall at 304-667-9493.
