Field of Flags 2025: Clay County to Honor Veterans All Week
LINEVILLE, AL — October 21, 2025 — The Samson’s Strength Sustainable Veterans Project (SSSVP) will lead a weeklong tribute to Alabama’s veterans as it hosts Field of Flags 2025, transforming a rural hillside outside Lineville into a striking display of remembrance and renewal.
Setup begins on Veterans Day, Tuesday, November 11, when volunteers will start placing 1,000 American flags arranged in the shape of Clay County, representing the number of veterans who call the county home. The display officially opens to visitors the next morning and remains accessible daily from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Wednesday through Saturday, November 12–15, concluding at 5 p.m. Saturday with a solemn TAPS performance by local high school musicians.
From Highway 49, drivers will first see signage from the Alabama Department of Veterans Affairs (ADVA) and the “More Than This Moment” campaign before the field of flags appears across the hillside. At the crest of the hill, the Remembrance Walkway connects the display to SSSVP’s Veterans Transitional Homes, symbolizing the journey from remembrance to recovery.

A Living Tribute to Service and Sacrifice
The Field of Flags includes a Remembrance Walkway lined with 139 full-size American flags, each representing an Alabama veteran lost to su***de in 2024. Between the flags, remembrance signs from Jon’s Mission for 22 will display the faces and stories of those honored.
“These are gently used flags, still needing purpose—flown with respect and pride for those who have served,” said Jamie Popwell, founder of Flags for Vets, Inc., which donated the repurposed flags.
“Earlier this summer, I was approached by Timothy Tati of Operation Rising Phoenix—he shared his vision of a Field of Flags,” said Kathleen Saucier, Case Manager for SSSVP. “Since then, it has grown to where we are today—honoring those who have served as well as remembering those who sacrificed so much for their service. We have been so proud to be a part of this project.”
At the display entrance, visitors will also see the American flag, the flags of each military branch, and ADVA signage promoting the 988 Su***de & Crisis Lifeline.

Community and Collaboration
The Field of Flags 2025 brings together AL2LA, Jon’s Mission for 22, Flags for Vets, Operation Rising Phoenix, and SSSVP, with support from the Alabama Department of Veterans Affairs. Volunteers from local homeschool groups, the community, and the Jacksonville State University ROTC will assist with installation and ceremonies.
“What makes this project special,” Saucier said, “is that it isn’t just about one organization—it’s about what happens when we all come together. Every group here brings a piece of the mission, and together we’re creating something that will truly move people.”
She added, “Every flag represents a life of service. Every step through the field honors their legacy. This isn’t just a field of flags—it’s a message that there’s still hope, still purpose, still life beyond the struggle.”

Event Schedule
Setup (Not Open to Public): Tuesday, November 11 — Veterans Day
Open to Visitors: Wednesday–Saturday, November 12–15, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.
Opening Ceremony: Wednesday, November 12 at 10:00 a.m.
Closing Ceremony: Saturday , November 15 at 5:00 p.m. (featuring TAPS by local high school band members)
Location: 56253 Highway 49, Lineville, Alabama
“We want people to see this field and feel something—to know that healing is possible, and that every flag has a story,” Saucier said. “Our goal isn’t just remembrance; it’s renewal.”
