Hybla Valley Elementary: VDOE State Performance & Accreditation Update

We are pleased to announce that Hybla Valley Elementary is Fully Accredited for the 2026–2027 school year!

The data highlights significant progress across key areas:
• Reading SOL Growth: Grades 3–6 reading pass rates increased from 45% in 2025 to 48% in 2026.
• English Language Mastery: Our WIDA growth score rose dramatically from 53% in 2025 to 63% in 2026, showing remarkable progress as our multilingual learners master two or more languages.
• Improved Attendance: Thanks to strong home-school partnerships, we have successfully reduced chronic absenteeism!
With high-quality classroom instruction, targeted student support, and your continued help prioritizing daily attendance, we are confident these gains will continue into 2027.

I went to Lake Braddock Secondary School for high school. I earned my bachelor’s degree in political science from Virginia Tech in 2021.

Coming out of college, I worked as an AmeriCorps member at JHS 123, a middle school in the South Bronx. I also did a teaching program in Spain, where I worked as a language learning assistant at a small school in the Valencia region, helping students learn English. These experiences gave me many happy memories, allowed me to work with students from different backgrounds, and built my confidence as an educator. After returning home from Spain when my teaching program ended, I wanted to continue to work in an environment where I could help young people learn and grow, and that is how my teaching journey at Hybla Valley began in 2025.

Hybla Valley Elementary School earns Purple Star status.
The Virginia Purple Star Designation is awarded to military-friendly schools that have demonstrated a major commitment to students and families connected to our nation’s military. Schools that earn the award will receive a special Purple Star recognition to display on-site.

Crunch Heard ’Round the Commonwealth! 🍎

Hybla Valley Elementary got a special visit from Jim Saunders of Saunders Farm! Jim talked with students about apples, how they’re grown, and what makes Virginia-grown apples so special. 🌱🍎

Then came the best part… students got to enjoy a Virginia-grown apple straight from Saunders Farm! Talk about fresh from the farm to the cafeteria! 😋

A huge thank you to Jim Saunders and Saunders Farm for sharing your time, knowledge, and delicious apples with our students, and to Hybla Valley ES for helping us celebrate Virginia-grown goodness! ❤️🍎

𝐏𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐞 𝐭𝐞𝐥𝐥 𝐮𝐬 𝐚 𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐭𝐥𝐞 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐞𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐛𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐠𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝-
I am a proud ambassador teacher from the Philippines. I earned my bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Bicol University in 2013 and completed my Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education in 2024. Before joining the Husky Pack, I taught in the Philippines for 12 years.

Hybla Valley Elementary School recognizes October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Staff and students are encouraged to wear pink on Wednesdays to show support and raise awareness.

Approximately 13% of women will be diagnosed with breast cancer at some point during their lifetime.
There were are an estimated 4.2 million women living with breast cancer in the United States.
