🍩 The Salvation Army Lassies stepped onto the front lines of WWI with one mission: bring comfort where it was most needed.

A warm donut became a reminder that someone cared, and that one act of love has rippled through generations.

Today, hundreds of families across our community find comfort, support, and hope through The Salvation Army.

🍩National Donut Day celebrates kindness that still changes lives.

“Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.”
1 Corinthians 13:7

At The Salvation Army, we live that out every day, serving families in crisis, feeding neighbors who are hungry, and offering hope to anyone who needs a place to rest and rebuild.

Because love isn’t just something we feel, it’s something we do… together.

🙏❤️ This past Sunday, we gathered as a Potomac Division family to celebrate the Candidate Farewell, honoring these faithful individuals as they answer God's call to officership.

As they embark on a 730-day journey to The Salvation Army's Evangeline Booth College in Atlanta, they step into a season of growth, learning, and preparation for a lifetime of ministry and service. While their journey will take them away from us for a time, we rejoice in knowing that God is leading each step and shaping them for His purpose.

We send them forth with our prayers, encouragement, and love, confident that the Lord who has called them will continue to guide, strengthen, and equip them for the work ahead.

🙏 Please join us in praying for these candidates as they begin this exciting new chapter. May God bless their studies, deepen their faith, and prepare them to be the future leaders of The Salvation Army.

❤️ Congratulations, Candidates. The Potomac Division is proud of you, is praying for you, and looks forward to all that God will accomplish through your lives.

More than a century ago, the “Donut Lassies” entered the WWI huts with hands full of flour, sugar, and the honest intention to lift the spirits of the soldiers who were far from home. Against all odds, that small act of kindness made a lasting difference.

On June 7, 1938, The Salvation Army first celebrated National Doughnut Day as a fundraiser during the Great Depression to support families facing hardship. A wonderful act that mirrored and honored the legacy of those courageous women.

Today, at The Salvation Army, we carry this purpose forward each day, meeting local needs with love and compassion through our food pantries 🍽️.

A simple recipe in action.
A lasting impact.

Because from the very beginning, the first ingredient was love.

This National Donut Day, we're proud to partner with Buddy Valastro to honor veterans and celebrate a tradition that began with The Salvation Army more than 80 years ago.

On Friday, June 5, Buddy will join us in New York City to distribute donuts to veterans, while Carlo's Bakery supports additional celebrations in communities across the country. From veteran appreciation events to local donut distributions, we're looking forward to sharing joy with those who have served and the communities around us.
