WHAT A NIGHT! So grateful for the support of our community for the Scholarship Fund of Alexandria. Rockin' for Scholarships was made possible by our generous sponsors - our hostess, Laurel Conger #laurelcongercompass, Carey Meushaw with Atlantic Coast Mortgage, Erin Rauner, Settlement Attorney with Monarch Title, and Windmill HIll design firm!

We wouldn't have been Rockin' without the talents of FIVE local bands! Thank you to #indigothursday, #jackandthecoolkids, #noiseinthebasement, #thederds, and #lacklustre for keeping us singing and dancing while raising money to make college dreams come true. Through the efforts of so many we raised over $13,000 for scholarships for the neediest students at Alexandria City High School. #achs

AND, all were thrilled by the surprise performance of Ed Roland, lead singer of Collective Soul #collectivesoul and friend of SFA supporter Ed Goeas, who joined Noise in the Basement singing "December." Again, WHAT A NIGHT! #scholarshipschangelives #forever

The Scholarship Fund of Alexandria wants to congratulate Noah Lyles, an alum of the former TC Williams High School, now Alexandria City High School, for winning the Bronze Metal in the 200-meter dash at the Tokyo Olympics! Noah and his brother, Josephus, both ran track in high school and continued to compete nationally and internationally.
We are so grateful for the support of Noah and his mother, Keisha, have shown for the SFA over the years. They have contributed signed track related gear of Noah's to our Gala Silent Auction, including the cleats pictured here. The items have always received multiple bids and are even more valuable now! Now that Thanksgiving is behind us we can focus on Giving Tuesday this upcoming week. I want to highlight an awesome local organization that helps ensure all Alexandria students, regardless of socioeconomic background, have the opportunity to attend college. The scholarships granted by Scholarship Fund of Alexandria often make the difference between a student being able to afford college, rather than staying at home. Are you looking for ways to give back to our community on Giving Tuesday? Sponsor spotlight: Thanks to Jack Taylor's Alexandria Toyota for being the Alexandria Turkey Trot Pace Car Sponsor -- and for EVERYTHING that their incredible team has done to make the Turkey Trot possible, from providing vehicles to turning over their showroom this week for packet pickup. We are so thankful! Taylor, a self-made businessman and philanthropist, has been recognized as [email protected] of the Living Legends of Alexandria and a past recipient of ACT for Alexandria's Legacy of Service Award. Alexandria City High School dedicated the Jack Taylor College and Career Wing in honor of his 25 years of generous donations to the Scholarship Fund of Alexandria. Jack Taylor's Alexandria Toyota was originally located on Mount Vernon Avenue, and is just one of four Toyota dealers in the COUNTRY to earn the coveted Toyota President’s Award 34 years in a row. Thank you for having me tonight. I am truly looking forward to being a part of this group of volunteers that believes so much in the future generations of our city’s fine youth.
The Alexandria Drive-in was founded at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic as a way to entertain and bring people together, even as we maintained our distance. As vaccination numbers rise and we are, thankfully, able to return to our new normal; celebrating in person with friends and families, attending events, and even going back to movie theaters, we have made the difficult decision to discontinue the Alexandria Drive-in. We are proud of the impact the Alexandria Drive-in made over the last several months having donated over $150,000 to local charities and entertaining hundreds of families in a safe, fun manner. We did not do this alone and we are grateful for the support of so many other local businesses. ALX Community, one of the original founding partners, established the operations and procedures which set us up for success. University Mall Theaters provided us with the valuable relationships we needed to access film licenses. Goodfynd, our food truck and ticketing partner, created a new business model to support us! We thank you for your support and know that we could not have done it without the support of our community. Congratulations to the 183 Class of 2021 T.C. Williams High School graduates who received $525,000 in college scholarships from the Scholarship Fund of Alexandria! This is the largest amount awarded for first-year scholarships in the organization’s 35-year history. “This scholarship is very important to me and my family because we no longer have to worry about the financial aspect of college and I can be more focused on my studies,” acknowledged Mikias Elias, who is headed to Virginia Tech to study mechanical engineering. Leonel Naves had that same sense of relief, “The scholarship will help me a lot because I can start college classes right away and not have to wait until I save enough money. I will begin my studies at NOVA and then transfer to George Mason University, where I plan to major in education.”

No black tie, but it’s Scholarship Fund of Alexandria Gala night and we’re wearing clothing that we don’t wear to go to bed. For more than 35 years, the Scholarship Fund of Alexandria has been supporting the students of the Alexandria City Public Schools with the financial resources they need to further their education.
