🙌 Apprentices in action!

Last week AlexRenew's Operations Apprentices attended the Virginia Tech Wastewater Plant Operators Short School in Blacksburg, Virginia, learning material that will help them prepare for operator license exams. Shout out to AlexRenew's Safety & Security Manager and Learning & Talent Development Manager who were also on site as teachers for the course!

Plastic bottles, plastic bags, takeout boxes...the list goes on. This is just a sample of the trash and debris that our new clamshell and rake system collects from the screening shaft before wastewater goes to the rest of our plant for treatment. Do your part to help keep local streams and rivers clean by disposing of waste properly!

Last week we were honored to receive the 2026 Excellence in Youth Engagement Award from the AlexandriaVA.gov Summer Youth Engagement Program! During their visit, students in the program toured our wastewater treatment plant and talked with operators, maintenance staff, and engineers about what it's like to work at AlexRenew. The wastewater industry offers a wide variety of careers, and we always appreciate the opportunity to share our paths with students.

In July, RiverRenew captured 27 million gallons of combined sewage and 1.8 tons of trash and debris across five rainfall events, with no overflows into the Potomac River. That's right – ZERO overflows. It's exciting to see RiverRenew already making our waterways healthier in its first month of service!
