As another year closes, we’re looking back on some of our favorite moments from 2022. Have a safe and happy new year!
We are an independent public authority managing Alexandria’s wastewater to improve local waterways.
Alexandria Renew Enterprises (AlexRenew) is one of the most advanced water resource recovery public utilities in the United States. We clean dirty water to protect our community and the environment. When dirty water flows from your home or business, we get to work turning it into sparkling, clean water.

A tunnel boring machine can't chew through thousands of cubic yards of soil without some regular dental work!
Unlike our dentist visits, each toothy check-up requires a special process called an "intervention".

Earlier this month, RiverRenew crews excavated 150 feet underground to build the Royal Street shaft.
Now, it's filled back up with 1,500 cubic yards of weak concrete called flowable fill! Why? So Hazel the TBM can safely mine into the shaft when she arrives!
