Village Meeting Tonight, 7:30 pm, with guest Solarize NOVA.

Have you wondered how to power a plug-in car safely without a garage? Is there a way that you can keep crucial appliances, such as your refrigerator, running during a power outage without a noisy, bulky, time-consuming-to-maintain generator? And, of course, is your house a good candidate for solar energy? These and your inevitable follow-on questions such as how do I determine if a product or service is safe, reliable, and reasonably priced; are there tax incentives, etc. will be addressed.

THANK YOU to everyone who participated in the WVCA Holiday Decorating Contest. You certainly made the neighborhood look festive, and we had some really creative and energetic people out there. The winners received Cheesetique gift certificates. We hope you get a chance to take a walk around the neighborhood and see these great displays.

Traditional: 41 Ancell
Creative: 242 Burgess
Children's Choice (tie): 43 Ancell & 69 Kennedy
Honorable Mentions: 231 Aspen & 2903 Mosby

Unfortunately, our budget for this endeavor was much smaller than the number of great decorators. There are a few we'd like to give a shout out to: 256 Burgess looks very pretty. Guthrie showed a lot of team spirit in decorating together. Some people at the bend between Burgess and Tennessee were innovative in using solar powered light strings to decorate the median in a way that is both environmentally friendly and avoids the tripping hazards of cords. Take a stroll around the neighborhood and see the lights!

Metro entrance update: the southwest access pavilion will be located at the intersection of E. Glebe and Potomac Ave.

Metro entrance update: the southwest access pavilion will be located at the intersection of E. Glebe and Potomac Ave.

NEWS :: At its regular meeting on November 14, the Alexandria City Council unanimously approved an amended development special use permit for the Potomac Yard Metrorail Station, which adds a southwest access pavilion to the new Metrorail Station at E. Glebe Road and Potomac Avenue.

The enhancement follows two years of extensive engagement with the community, including the Potomac Yard Metrorail Implementation Work Group, to provide a substantial entryway to the station within available funding. The enhancement will be funded with a $50 million state grant, which the City received as part of the Commonwealth of Virginia’s incentive package for the new Amazon headquarters and Virginia Tech Innovation Campus.

The previous station design, approved by City Council in 2018, included one access point on the east side of the station, and two access points on the west side (a north pavilion and a sloped ramp from E. Glebe Road). The updated design replaces the ramp with a flat, enclosed, 520-foot bridge, accessible via an elevator or stairs from the pavilion. The entry aligns with the crosswalk across Potomac Avenue, providing a direct line of access from the National Industries for the Blind building. Pedestrians and cyclists will be able to use the bridge to cross between the east and west sides of the station without passing through fare gates. Like the rest of the station, the pavilion and bridge will complement the surrounding landscape by featuring earth tones, metal, glass, and stone veneer.

We are new to Warwick Village (we are renting). We were told that the space right in front of our townhouse is "our" parking space. Is that a codified rule, or just "common courtesy"? It's been true most of our 2 wks so far, but someone else was parked there yesterday and trying to figure out if I need to reserve the space for movers (I'm already reserving 2 spaces on the "outer" row across from our townhouse.) Thanks for your advice.
It's been months since I've seen a Village Voice ... so they're no longer published?
Does someone in the Village have a pet rabbit who has escaped? I've seen the brown rabbit on Guthrie Avenue. He doesn't seem to know where to go. I just hope he survives.

Weather looks pretty good for Luminaria on Saturday. I'll have a table set up for kit distribution on Ancell tomorrow afternoon 3-6 and Saturday starting at noon for those who have volunteered. Thanks
We will move Luminaria to Saturday, Dec 12 because of weather. Even though it looks like the showers will end earlier in the day, we'd like to reduce the chance for rain to affect the production and keep the bags intact. For those who are volunteering, I'll have the kits in front of my house on Ancell for pickup tomorrow afternoon, Dec 4. and Dec 11 for those who would like to come by. Thanks
Happy Thanksgiving Week, neighbors. 😊😊 Luminaria will be December 5th, with a rain date of December 12. If you have contacted me about Luminaria packets, please plan to pick up your bags, sand and candles either on Sunday, November 29th (write me a note, please) or starting at 10am on December 5th outside my place on Ancell. Thanks!
Hi, Neighbors. Luminaria will be a bit different this year but we are excited to keep the tradition alive (on a smaller scale) prioritize safety during the Holidays. Instead of a central production and distribution location, we are asking residents who are interested to reserve a pack of 40 bags, candles and sand for your street. There's a limited amount of kits so please let me know if you are able to help by responding in the comments, via DM or email by Nov 27. Thanks
