Come out to Alexandria's Earth Day celebration from 10 AM - 2 PM today on Lenny Harris fields near GW Middle School. This year’s theme is Climate Change - Take Action! The event is a great way for kids and adults to learn about ways to live more sustainably. There will be fun activities, a bike rodeo, electric vehicle demos, food, exhibits, an art contest, and much more.

It’s also a chance for residents to encourage our City Council members to set good policy that protects the environment and lowers costs to consumers in an equitable way. On Monday Council will vote on whether to create a program that can lower utility bills for apartment tenants by finally giving landlords a way to finance energy efficiency investments. Let them know what you think.

Mark your calendar for Alexandria Earth Day 2018! This year's celebration will be held at Lenny Harris Memorial Fields at Braddock Park, 1005 Mt. Vernon Ave., on Saturday, April 28, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

ALX City Council unanimously endorsed Phase 1 of the updated Environmental Action Plan yesterday! This update was a joint venture of the Environmental Policy Commission, City Staff and local activists over the last 15 months. Many members of public spoke in support and lots of commentary on the recent UN IPCC report and the need for ALX to be part of the solution, and not part of the problem. Thank you Council! Now on to Phase 2!
