North Dakota Change Network: Mark Billings

Mark Billings works for Best Friends Mentoring Program, a mentoring initiative across North Dakota which pairs at-risk youth with volunteer mentors through their schools and communities.

He joined Change Network to advance Project Uhusiano, named after a Swahili word for connection and relationship, which strives to enhance his Dickinson, North Dakota, community's relationship with its African population. Discover the ways Mark works to make Dickinson more inclusive through promoting African culture and how being a part of Change Network gave him access to skills and knowledge to become a stronger leader in his community.

South Dakota Change Network: Heidi Hepola

Heidi Hepola works at the International Programs Office of Northern State University, encouraging cultural awareness and cross-cultural experiences in the university's community of Aberdeen, South Dakota. Northern State University features representation from around 50 countries among its students, faculty, and staff members represent around 50 countries.

Heidi came to the Change Network with a project to better understand the public transportation needs of the community's international students, immigrants, and newer residents. Learn about Heidi's work to promote dialogues on public transportation within Aberdeen and improve the community's ability to get around town.

North Dakota Change Network: Brad Kroupa

Brad Kroupa is an Arikara from the Fort Berthold Indian Reservation who serves as executive director of the Arikara Community Action Group and is a youth advocate consultant for the White Shield, North Dakota community.

Brad joined the Change Network to work on the Mentor Team Project, which seeks to connect indigenous youth in White Shield with a diverse group of mentors from both on and off the reservation. Discover Brad's story of becoming an impactful leader in his community.

Cary Thrall is an educator, community organizer, artist, yoga and meditation instructor in the Black Hills of South Dakota. She also heads CAT Scratch Studios, a small business which connects her interests to create stronger, more connected communities through creative arts and therapies.

Cary joined the Change Network to focus on Linking Fences 2019, her project to bring communities closer together by collaborating on public art installations using chain link fences. Hear Cary's story of leading community change.
