Alexandria Medical Reserve Corps

Alexandria Medical Reserve Corps The Alexandria Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) is a unit of local medical and non-medical volunteers who are ready to respond to public health emergencies and support public health emergency preparedness across Alexandria.

In the wake of the September 11, 2001 attacks, thousands of Americans volunteered their skills and talents to assist the community. Many more asked, “What can I do to help?” The Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) was established in 2002 as a national network of volunteers, organized locally to improve the health and safety of their communities. The MRC network is made up of 987 community-based units and almost 200,000 volunteers located throughout the United States and its territories.

Thank you so much for supporting a great cause! Volunteers like you genuinely change the world, and we are forever grateful! Thank yoh Alexandria MRC for your compassion, time and commitment!

Over the course of this past week, the VA MRC initiated a task force of 294 volunteers across 13 localities to Dulles International Airport. The volunteers, serving in interpreter, general support, and COVID-19 testing roles, helped support the intake of Afghan refugees into the safety of the United States. We are immensely proud of our volunteers and their eagerness to serve this 24/7 global humanitarian effort.

Good job Alexandria MRC medical volunteers for helping with COVID vaccines!!!

COVID-19 :: Governor Ralph Northam, Mayor Justin Wilson and members of the Alexandria City Council visited an Alexandria Health Department (AHD) vaccination site yesterday, to recognize Alexandria’s leadership in administering the vaccine against COVID-19. As a result of advocacy by AHD and the City of Alexandria, state officials authorized Alexandria to be among the first localities to move to Phase 1b of vaccinations, which includes frontline essential workers, persons age 75 or older, and staff and residents of correctional facilities and homeless shelters. This follows work from December 24 through January 8 to provide 1,518 doses of vaccine to health care workers and staff and residents of long-term care facilities eligible under Phase 1a.

“Our message is simple: Get the vaccine as soon as you are eligible,” said Alexandria Health Director Dr. Stephen A. Haering. “If you are not eligible yet, you will be soon. Be prepared to take this important step for your health and those you love.”

As an Alexandria Medical Reserve Corps volunteer, Bridget’s selfless donation of time, effort, and compassion in the face of the COVID-19 crisis is amazing. She became a call center supervisor and passed on her passion for delving into an issue to find the best possible solution for the caller. #NVW #LOCALLIGHT #VolunteerAlex https://bit.ly/3xa9rl5 Donate now to support volunteers like Bridget. https://bit.ly/3deqVoy
Paul became an Alexandria Medical Reserve Corps volunteer because he was eager to help the community with the pandemic response.
