APS "DELIBERATELY INDIFFERENT" TO DISCRIMINATION AGAINST JEWISH STUDENTS: "Investigators in the attorney general’s Office of Civil Rights also concluded that there was 'reasonable cause' to believe that APS violated state and federal antidiscrimination laws by failing to adequately respond to the hostile environment at Yorktown."

When Jewish students at an Arlington, Virginia, high school were mocked, threatened, and chased, their desperate requests for help were met with indifference by school officials, writes Rupa Subramanya.

DEMS FLEEING FAR-LEFT PARTY: “With the exception of Pennsylvania Sen. John Fetterman, my party’s leaders have sought to appease the dangerous faction rising in our midst.

“Weak, timid figures like Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer are spouting empty clichés — ‘We are a big-tent party’ — while abdicating their moral and political responsibilities.

“Democrats aren’t coddling Scandinavian-style socialists; they’re getting into bed with a nihilistic, deconstructionist brand of third-worldism.”

After decades of giving my all for Democratic House and Senate candidates, the victory of Abdul El-Sayed in Michigan means I’ll be supporting a Republican instead.

HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY! The decision to declare independence was far from inevitable. By the summer of 1776, the Second Continental Congress had been managing the war against Great Britain for more than a year, but many delegates still hoped for reconciliation. Several colonies had instructed their representatives not to support independence, and a failed vote was a real possibility.

Everything changed when Richard Henry Lee introduced his resolution on June 7, declaring that the colonies “are, and of right ought to be, free and independent States.” Rather than vote immediately, Congress delayed the decision for weeks to persuade reluctant delegations. During that time, a committee led by Thomas Jefferson drafted what would become the Declaration of Independence in anticipation of a successful vote.

As July approached, several key colonies remained divided. Pennsylvania was split, South Carolina remained hesitant, Delaware was deadlocked, and New York lacked authority to vote for independence. Delegates like John Adams spent days building consensus behind the scenes, knowing that unity would determine the future of the American cause.

One of the most dramatic moments came from Delaware. With one delegate supporting independence and another opposing it, the deciding vote rested with Caesar Rodney, who rode nearly 80 miles through a thunderstorm to reach Philadelphia in time. His arrival gave Delaware its crucial vote for independence, while South Carolina changed its position and Pennsylvania’s delegation shifted just enough to secure passage.

On July 2, 1776, twelve colonies voted for independence, while New York abstained because its delegates had not yet received new instructions. Congress finalized the Declaration two days later, giving us the date we celebrate each year. Their victory wasn’t guaranteed—it was won through courage, perseverance, and a willingness to stand for liberty despite the risks. As we celebrate Independence Day, let’s remember that freedom is never self-sustaining. Every generation is called to preserve it through informed citizenship, principled leadership, and the courage to defend the ideals that inspired America’s founding.
