Today, we pause to honor the courageous men and women who were wounded or made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation. Purple Heart Day is a reminder that freedom comes at a cost, carried by those who answered the call to serve with extraordinary courage and selflessness.

Their courage, sacrifice, and resilience will never be forgotten. Today and every day, we thank Purple Heart recipients and their families for all they have given us.

Today we remember the Buffalo Soldiers. The Buffalo Soldiers were African American soldiers who served on the western frontier after the civil war fighting in the Indian Wars and protecting our National Parks.
