Hanson Community Library

Hanson Community Library Joint venture in building a new community library Success of the library is a testament to this communities dedication to the written word.

Reading is a staple of the people of this area and will continue to help make this community one of the best. It is time to move forward to better serve these people. The plan is to build a community/school library on the south side of Hanson School. While the school and city libraries each have their own strengths, a combined library has the opportunity to serve both the school and community at a

higher level with better services, hours and resources. This library will be utilized by the school and the general public with daytime and evening hours.

Reminding my Hanson County Library patrons that we do have an ebook program for you to use at no cost. The city and school however does have to pay a fee for this progam every year. The fee is pretty spendy and as of now we do not have many people using this. Below are the directions for getting into this program to use. The selection is not the largest to choose from but I try to add new titles every few month. You do need a library card number to get on and if you need to get that, please let me know and I will get you registered. If you do belong to the library and don't know your number, again please contact me and I will get it to you. My email is [email protected] and my phone number is 933 0574. I do text. Here are the directions: GO TO THE HANSON SCHOOL WEB PAGE www.hanson.k12.sd.us Click on links community library click on visit the digital collection for teen on that page. Click on Try Libby and if you do not have the Libby app, it offers the opportunity to download it. Click on Libby App.com, click on yes I have a library card and Search for library. Type in Hanson and the option for Hanson Community Library will appear. Click on that and sign in with your library card number You will then receive these options to search newest, popular random available ... I know it sounds like a lot of steps but once you go through it, you will find it is pretty easy to do. I am hoping that by putting this out there, I will get more users and make program more worthwhile for the cost we are spending on it.

FYI the OverDrive App on iPhones and other devices will be retired at the end of the month, so patrons need to start using the Libby App. May 1 when you try to open your app it will tell you it no longer works and that you need to sign in via Libby. You will choose your library (hanson) and then enter your card and you should be in after that.

We are up and running! You can now connect to Overdrive through this website :https://hansonsd.overdrive.com/ You should be able to connect with your library card number as in the past. I am still waiting for them to acknowledge payment for this service. Then I can add more titles. The library will be paying for titles on their own so the selection probably won't be as extensive as you are used to having. Please be patient with the titles being added. I can only add what the library can afford. Thanks!

Just an update to my people who were using Overdrive and found we no longer have that service. I am working closely with one of the overdrive reps who is looking into different avenues for me to try. Right now, it is just a waiting game to see if we can hook up with another consortium. He is sending some new information today so hopefully I will have an answer soon. I am so sorry this had to happen but unfortunately it was out of my hands . Thanks for your patience.

For those of you who have been using Overdrive to get books from the State Library..That option will no longer be available after January 1, 2023. They have changed some details and we no longer meet the requirements set by them. I use Amazon to purchase books for my kindle. They do not charge much for books. Thank you

This morning Liz had the children make "Haystacks" and some asked for the recipe so this is how you make haystacks:

1 1/4 cups quick oats
1/2 cup chocolate chips
2 or 3 T peanut butter
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
4 T butter
1 cup sugar
1/4 cup milk

Put the oats, peanut butter, choc chips and vanilla in a bowl.
Place butter, sugar, and milk in a saucepan over medium high heat. Bring to boil for about 1 minute. Pour the stove mixture over the oats and such in the bowl. Mix until chocolate is melted and everything is combined. Quickly make little haystacks using spoons and dropping them unto wax paper. Let cool for a few minutes
