During times of crisis, it’s more important than ever to preserve the bonds that matter most, such as those that bind pets and their humans. As the number of people affected by COVID-19 continues to rise, RedRover is providing needed resources to ensure that people can still care for the animals they love during this crisis.

Wall Street Journal Highlights Former Chesco Sheriff’s Measures to Ensure No Family Pets Are Harmed

We are so, so honored to have Sheriff (ret.!) Carolyn Bunny Welsh as one of our co-chairs. She is - and has been - an amazing and vocal advocate for improved canine encounters by law enforcement!

With police departments nationwide now adding federal training that will help officers avoid fatal run-ins with domestic dogs, former Chester County Sheriff Carolyn “Bunny” Welsh already had a set of measures to prevent family pets from getting hurt.

Sheriff Carolyn Bunny Welsh of Chester County Sheriff's Office of PA--quoted in the Wall Street Journal!

Sheriff Carolyn “Bunny” Welsh of Chester County, Pa., makes everyone on her force carry in their vehicles a catch pole, a long stick with a loop of cord on the end to subdue an angry dog. She also requires deputies to train on how to manage animals to avoid any injuries to sheriffs or dogs.

“I worry about the safety and security of the deputies but also many of these dogs are family pets and very important to the family,” said Sheriff Welsh.

A Voice for the Voiceless

Who We Are

The National Coalition On Violence Against Animals was established as an independent collective of local, state and national organizations that focus on animal cruelty and its relationship to other forms of violence.

The NCOVAA builds upon the hard work of each individual member and member organization, accelerating their momentum by bringing together all the elements to achieve a national multidisciplinary coordination of efforts.

The NCOVAA facilitates cooperation across organizations in ongoing and new efforts both to end animal abuse and to increase understanding that it occurs in the general context of violence in society.

Can someone give me an update on what is the current status of NIBRS and the tracking of animal abuse data? I know that the pet-abuse website is now offline but until NIBRS data becomes available there is no source that I am aware of for even a qualitative idea of what's happening where. How many States are using NIBRS and is it voluntary by individual jurisdiction? I heard that funding for the program might be in question. Will the data eventually become publicly available for research? If you can point me to a website with the most current status that would be great! Thank you!
