Douglas Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) was organized in 1954 by local farmers for the purpose of promoting the art and science of good land use. The SWCD assists landowners and operators in planning and applying the soil and water conservation practices needed to protect and improve their soil and water resources. The SWCD is a legal subdivision of the State of Minnesota, operating un

der a charter issued by the Secretary of State on November 12, 1946. The activities of the District are governed and directed by an elected board of five supervisors.

We know so many of you are dealing with so much tree and other damage from our recent storms. Please be safe with chainsaws and other equipment. Our Land and Resource Management Department wanted to pass along one recommendation for people with shoreline.
Damaged trees and branches along the lakeshore can be removed, but the recommendation is for stumps to remain because that keeps the lakeshore stabilized and prevents erosion. If you have questions about any recovery work on the shoreline our staff is ready to help. Call 320-762-3863.
