The annual survey for new locations of Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) in Douglas County lakes wrapped up today on Mill Lake.
Each year the county contracts with Blue Water Science to look for Eurasian Watermilfoil, Curly-leaf pondweed and Starry stonewort on select lakes. This year the following lakes were surveyed: Andrew, Blackwell, Brophy, Freeborn, Grants, Latoka, Lobster, Mill, Mina, Moon, Oscar, Pocket, Rachel, Red Rock and Reno.
Aquatic Scientists Jo Stuckert and Steve McComas met with County Environmental Planning Technician Justin Swart to review the preliminary findings. McComas says the goal is to methodically find what's in the lake and where it is. He sends the data captured to Swart who analyzes and processes it. Swart sends it to county lake associations and posts it for the public on the county website https://experience.arcgis.com/experience/6ba47fb54f194792b564e4e93890ebd2
