Children's Advocacy Network

Children's Advocacy Network The mission of the Children's Advocacy Network is to help heal and champion abused and neglected children throughout Central Louisiana.
Since 1995, our agency has worked to ensure accountability, justice and child safety throughout every step of the investigation, trial and foster care placement. Our three programs provide children with the proper help needed to cope with and eventually overcome the traumatic experiences they have endured: The Children’s Advocacy Center provides a non-threatening and safe environment for children to retell their abuse stories, minimizing the potential of re-traumatizing the child. Trauma-Focused Therapy provides therapy, education and support to children with histories of neglect and/or abuse, and their foster or adoptive caregivers. Rapides CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) recruits and trains volunteers that are appointed by a judge to advocate on behalf of abused and neglected children in court.

We are so proud to be a part of a community that looks out for each other!

One agency that is very diligently working for our community is the Children Advocacy Network. I got to chat with Wade Bond, the executive director, about how during everything that is going on, the incredible team members and volunteers have not stopped fighting for the hurting children in our area.

Thank you, CAN team, for being such an integral part of helping!

May we recognize the role we play within our community and help those who need it. From advocating for a child to simple acts of kindness, there is always a way we can empower those around us.

Take time this weekend to remind a child in your life of how special they are. Let them know you are always there for them. 💜

Intentional one-on-one time can be a great time to "let loose" for a few minutes and let children choose.

Creating opportunities for children to have a voice builds relationships. Choosing builds their self confidence. If they suggest something that isn't within safety precautions of COVID recommendations, this opens up the chance for conversations!

How do you minimize the chances of your children being exploited on the internet?

TIP: BE AWARE of what apps/games/platforms your kids are using and know their capabilities. Examine them and ask yourself questions such as: Is there a chat function? Are they chatting or playing with strangers? Can they easily access information that isn't age appropriate?
Monitoring what your children are accessing on technology is one step to preventing exploitation.

Comment below the digital safety precautions you are utilizing in your household!

Parents, we need you now!

Spend some intentional one-on-one time with your kiddos. We understand that it’s easy to get stuck on technology m, whether it be for work, virtual learning, etc. Unplug from those screens for some quality time. Read a book, go for a walk, have an impromptu dance party, or simply talk to them. More opportunities for quality time will help build relationships. Better relationships build strong families.

Comment below and share how you are spending one-on-one time with your children!

WE NEED YOU!

You have been challenged to help us recruit 25 NEW advocates for children by our 25th anniversary (AKA end of June)!!

This challenge isn't about reaching a certain number! It's about each child who is in this situation, and that they get the best care and advocacy possible. Our goal as an agency is for each child in care to have a CASA. Someone who advocates on behalf of their well-being in all situations.

Check out our site or call for information on how you can make a direct impact in the life of a child. Next online training begins June 8th!

Darkness to Light

Be a safe adult.

"Cultivating a healthy, trusting relationship with kids is actually one of the best protections against abuse. Children will be less vulnerable to people who would violate their boundaries and more likely to tell you if they are uncomfortable or if abuse occurs."

#WeNeedYouNow #ChildAbuseAwarenessMonth #DarknesstoLight

One of the greatest protections against child sexual abuse is when the adults in a child's life act as a "safe adult." Being a safe adult means that a child can trust you to be there for them when they need help.

Read on for more tips about how to cultivate a healthy, trusting relationship with kids
