The JH Counseling Duo has asked the PTA to provide decorations for the next event -- Winter Cheer on Cameron Street -- on the evening of December 16th! Our counselors and teachers will be handing out hot cocoa, drive-through-style, at the bus loop between 5pm and 6pm. We’re planning to help by setting up holiday lights and inflatables to make the drive-through magical! If you can loan decorations or help with set-up or clean-up, please use our Sign-Up Genius to let us know!

Reminder to Parents! Additional school supplies are being distributed today. Please see the note from this week’s Jaguar Junction below! Happy Wednesday!

Dear Families,

We are gearing up to distribute materials to all students. This is a special occasion as we are able purchase and provide instructional materials that were hand selected for each student. Each grade level team of teachers took time to assess the needs of students in their grade levels after learning in the virtual format during first quarter. We are also very fortunate to receive some items from the district. The materials are required and needed as we continue to provide instruction that promotes the success of each student. We are looking forward to seeing all families at Distribution Day as we hand out the required materials.

We will distribute materials on Wednesday, December 2, 2020, from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm. Curbside, no-contact pick-up will be available for K-5 families at the bus loop entrance. Curbside, no-contact pick up will be available for families of students in grades 6-8 at the car loop. Please have your student identify his/her grade level so we can be sure the correct materials are issued.

We will also issue headphones to our English language learners. Please let us know at pick up and we will verify your student's name with our list.

During pick-up we will request families wear a mask and practice social distancing. If you are sick or experiencing symptoms of COVID-19, please do not come.

Again, this is a special time; and we are excited to continue our Journey to Excellence while giving our students what they need to succeed!

See you this Wednesday!

Take a look at the amazing fall artwork from our Jefferson-Houston PreK-8 IB School students! The art lines the entire edge of the JH field near the Durant Center, and it will be up until Tuesday, November 10th, unless it rains before then! Stop by, take a look, and join us in celebrating Fall and JH School Spirit! The art walk was a great addition to the Grab-and-Go Fall Festival, thanks to our creative JH kids! Also thanks to the team at Dunbar Alexandria-Olympic Boys & Girls Club who helped with the exhibit!

October was National Principals Month, and though we’re celebrating a little late, the JH PTA wants to thank our new Head of School, Dr. John McCain! Dr. McCain is doing an amazing job, working tirelessly to run our school in the middle of a pandemic, and we’re glad he has joined us here in Alexandria!

Also, many thanks to our Counseling Duo, Ms. Harris and Ms. Branch, and to our new Parent Liaison, Ms. Fraser, who worked together to organize a great, socially-distanced Grab-and-Go Fall Festival for the JH kids!

Last but not least, thank you to our wonderful JH teachers who handed out treat bags yesterday! We hope that you all were able to get a treat for yourselves, too, at the Rejuvenation Station!

“Summer camps aren’t open, and my kids don’t like learning online,” says a mom. The BtNL summer camps teach kids leadership and teamwork skills through fun and creative activities. They participate in the same activities as an onsite camp, just now at home. Students have the opportunity to meet other kids from around the country, and access a youth leadership program that is traditionally based exclusively in Portland, Oregon.
