Eighty-two years ago tonight, young men from all over the United States and from every walk of life, prepared to take on the invasion of Europe, otherwise known as D-DAY.

We honor their sacrifice and pay tribute to the Greatest Generation with the words written by General Dwight D. Eisenhower, Supreme Commander, Allied Forces.

“Soldiers, Sailors, and Airmen of the Allied Expeditionary Force:

You are about to embark upon the Great Crusade, toward which we have striven these many months.

The eyes of the world are upon you. The hopes and prayers of liberty-loving people everywhere march with you.

In company with our brave Allies and brothers-in-arms on other Fronts you will bring about the destruction of the German war machine, the elimination of N**i tyranny over oppressed peoples of Europe, and security for ourselves in a free world.

Your task will not be an easy one. Your enemy is well trained, well equipped, and battle-hardened. He will fight savagely.

But this is the year 1944. Much has happened since the N**i triumphs of 1940-41. The United Nations have inflicted upon the Germans great defeats, in open battle, man-to-man. Our air offensive has seriously reduced their strength in the air and their capacity to wage war on the ground. Our Home Fronts have given us an overwhelming superiority in weapons and munitions of war, and placed at our disposal great reserves of trained fighting men. The tide has turned. The free men of the world are marching together to victory.

I have full confidence in your courage, devotion to duty, and skill in battle. We will accept nothing less than full victory.

Good Luck! And let us all beseech the blessing of Almighty God upon this great and noble undertaking.”

Arrests made after standoff on Bouef Trace

On June 4, 2026 at approximately 2:40 PM, Patrol Deputies responded to the 6400 block Bouef Trace, Alexandria, in reference to a reported disturbance between a male and female, allegedly involving a weapon.

While deputies were on the way to this address, they were advised that both the suspect and the victim had left the area in separate vehicles.

Contact was eventually made with the victim who advised the suspect, identified as Stephen Dwayne Triggs, Jr. , 32 of Alexandria, hit them in the face with an object, possibly a firearm. The victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment of their injuries.

While attempting to serve a search warrant at the scene on Bouef Trace, Detectives observed a male subject fitting the description of Triggs in the doorway of the residence. When they attempted to contact Triggs, he retreated into the residence and refused to come and speak to Detectives.

Deputies and Detectives continued to speak with Triggs by phone in an attempt to get him to surrender but he continued to refuse to exit the residence.

Due to information gathered from their investigation, Detectives believed the suspect may be armed with children in the residence. Due to this new information, Detectives requested the assistance of RPSO SWAT in the apprehension of the barricaded suspect.

RPSO SWAT arrived on scene and continued negotiations. After a brief standoff, the suspect came out and was taken into custody without further incident. So far, no weapons were recovered.

As their investigation continued, Detectives determined the victim, identified as Stephanie Jones, 33, was also an alleged aggressor, and when she returned to the scene after Triggs was in custody, she placed under arrest as well.

As of tonight, both Triggs and Jones will be charged for Domestic Abuse Battery with a child present. Triggs will also be charged with a Probation Violation.

Both subjects were booked into the Rapides Parish Detention Center.

Sheriff’s Detectives say there investigation is still ongoing at the time of this release.

ATLANTIC HURRICANE SEASON BEGINS JUNE 1st

The season will officially begin on June 1, 2026, and end on November 30, 2026.

Currently, NOAA’s outlook for the 2026 Atlantic hurricane season predicts a 35% chance of a near-normal season, a 10% chance of an above-normal season, and a 55% chance of a below-normal season.

However, NOW is the time to prepare, not when the forecast has one heading our way.

Items to think about having on hand are as follows:

Water (one gallon per person per day for several days, for drinking and sanitation)

Food (at least a several-day supply of non-perishable food)

Battery-powered or hand crank radio and a NOAA Weather Radio with tone alert

Flashlight

First aid kit

Extra batteries

Whistle (to signal for help)

Dust mask (to help filter contaminated air)

Plastic sheeting, scissors and duct tape (to shelter in place)

Moist towelettes, garbage bags and plastic ties (for personal sanitation)

Manual can opener (for food)

Local numbers for emergency services including where to get SAND BAGS

Cell phone with chargers and a backup battery

We hope the NOAA predictions are correct but if not, PREPARE-PLAN-STAY SAFE!

In late April of 2026, agents with the Rapides Area Drug Enforcement (RADE) Unit began receiving multiple community complaints in reference to individuals living in the 1700 block of Thornton Court, Alexandria, LA, allegedly selling narcotics out of a residence. RADE Agents were very familiar with this address as they have served multiple search warrants at this residence in the past from prior investigations.

RADE has previously arrested suspects living at this residence, including Craig Brown who is currently serving time for drug trafficking. In the last few years, RADE has seized over 8 pounds of Fentanyl, over 4 pounds of Methamphetamines, Ma*****na, multiple fi****ms, and a variety of drug paraphernalia from this address and from traffic stops related to investigations involving this address.

Agents began their investigation into the anonymous community complaints and through surveillance techniques and investigative means, they identified Diante Brown as the main suspect. An arrest warrant for Diante Brown for Distribution of CDS II (Fentanyl) was obtained and a search warrant for 1735 Thornton Court was also secured.

On May 20th, 2026, RADE Agents, with the assistance of the Alexandria Police Department Special Response Team, executed the search warrant at 1735 Thornton Court where Diante Brown was taken into custody without incident on the active distribution warrant. Agents also conducted a search of the residence where 11 plastic bags, all containing suspected Fentanyl, were located along with multiple digital scales and other items of paraphernalia. The total weight of the suspected fentanyl weighed approximately 1.5 pounds. Brown also possessed over $2000.00 in assorted U.S. currency.

Diante Brown was placed under arrest, transported and booked into the Rapides Parish Detention Center-1 for the active distribution warrant, Possession of CDS II (Fentanyl) with Intent to Distribute and possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Brown was issued Civil Asset Forfeiture paperwork for the seized cash.

Diante Brown remains in jail at the time of this release, being held on a $1,000,500.00 bond.

Agents say their investigation is still ongoing and more arrests are possible.

“As I have said many times before, point us in the right direction and we will investigate these community complaints and follow that investigation where it takes us” said Sheriff Mark Wood. “We will continue to do everything we can to keep this poison out of our community and with the public’s help, we are doing that. I would also like to thank our partner agencies that work closely with us every day to fulfill this mission.”

The Rapides Area Drug Enforcement (RADE) Unit is a multi-jurisdictional team comprised of the Alexandria Police Department, Ball Police Department, Boyce Police Department, Cheneyville Police Department, Forest Hill Police Department, Glenmora Police Department, Grant Parish Sheriff’s Office Lecompte Police Department, McNary Police Department, Pineville Police Department, Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office, Woodworth Police Department, Grant Parish District Attorney’s Office, Rapides Parish District Attorney’s Office, Louisiana Department of Probation and Parole and the FBI SAFE STREETS TASK FORCE.

Americans began to recognize Memorial Day in 1868, and the country established it as a federal holiday in 1971.

Originally known as “Decoration Day,” the holiday started with communities coming together to decorate the graves of those who died during service.

Memorial Day is observed on the last Monday of May each year in the United States. This year, Memorial Day will be observed on Monday, May 25, 2026.

The administrative offices of Rapides Parish Sheriff's Office will be closed on Monday, May 25, in observance of Memorial Day.

Please join Sheriff Mark Wood, his staff and the men and women of RPSO in remembering and honoring the sacrifice of our service members who have given that last full measure of devotion to their country.

Remember. Respect. Honor.
