ALIVE ALIVE! Emergency Services - Homeless Services - Early Education is the largest private safety net organization in the City of Alexandria. It was founded in 1969 by a small group of caring individuals who saw the need among their fellow Alexandrians and created ALIVE!

Mission: ALIVE! draws upon the full strength and diversity of the Alexandria community through a network of 44 faith organizations and over 900 dedicated volunteers who come together – with faith and love – to realize ALIVE!s mission of helping people faced with emergency situations or long term needs become capable of assuming self-reliant roles in the community.

Five More Questions with Ally Barbaro - The Zebra

Thank you to Ally Barbaro at Hunger Free Alexandria for her shout out to ALIVE!
"I’ve been amazed by the people who work at ALIVE, especially Ann [Patterson, food program director] and Jennifer [Ayers, executive director]. My position doesn’t have an office and I’ve been working out of their office. They both welcomed me in and helped me understand the food landscape. The work they’ve done throughout the pandemic has blown me away. They are unstoppable! They have quadrupled the food distribution in this community. It was awesome getting to know them and watch them work."

Ally Barbaro answers five more questions about her time at AmeriCorps VISTA and helping Hunger Free Alexandria during the pandemic
