Glad påsk & Happy Easter from us at Swedes in the States 🐣 💛

Did you know Sweden was the first country to recognize the United States of America?

Did you know Sweden was the first country to recognize the United States of America?

On April 3, 1783 the Treaty of Amity and Commerce between the United States and Sweden was signed. The treaty, which was signed during the American Revolutionary War, established a commercial alliance between the American colonies and the Kingdom of Sweden.

At that time, Benjamin Franklin was serving as a diplomat in Paris, France where one of his roles was as Minister Plenipotentiary to His Majesty King Gustav III of Sweden.

The Treaty of Amity and Commerce marked the first time the fledgling United States was recognized as a nation, a milestone Franklin recognized by describing Sweden as “the first power in Europe which had voluntarily and without solicitation offered its friendship to the United States.” #swedeninusa 🇸🇪🇺🇸

Magdalen Green is Dundee's oldest city park having been in use for some 400 years and has long been used for both meeting and recreational purposes. The bandstand was built in 1890 at the Saracen Foundry by Walter Macfarlane & Co of Glasgow and was lovingly restored 1991. It has become a Dundee icon and hosts concerts on Sunday afternoons during the summer.
