Behind every GPA is a story of resilience. 💛

Our Fall 2026 scholars are survivors of both s*x trafficking and labor trafficking, and every scholar has maintained a 2.7+ GPA while pursuing their Bachelor’s or Master’s degree.

These achievements represent more than academic success. They represent determination, possibility, and the courage to keep building toward a future beyond exploitation.

At Sun Gate Foundation, we believe survivors deserve the opportunity to build, achieve, lead, and thrive.

To our Fall 2026 Scholars: we see you, we believe in you, and we’re proud to invest in your future. 🎓

We are proud to celebrate Sun Gate Foundation CEO Shamere McKenzie for representing survivor leadership at the 2026 DHS Blue Campaign Symposium, hosted by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Center for Countering Human Trafficking.

Shamere joined federal legal experts Kate Finley, Deborah Sills, Leah Calabro, and Ayn Ducao for a powerful panel discussion on the Trafficking Survivors Relief Act (TSRA) and the importance of ensuring survivors have meaningful access to post-conviction relief.

For survivors who were compelled to engage in criminal activity as a result of their trafficking, leaving their trafficking situation does not always mean they are truly free. Trafficking-related convictions can follow survivors for years, creating barriers to education, employment, housing, financial stability, and long-term independence.

This issue is deeply connected to the mission of Sun Gate Foundation. We know that education can be transformative, but survivors must also have the opportunity to move forward without the circumstances of their exploitation continuing to define their future.

As Shamere emphasized, survivors must have a meaningful role in shaping the laws, policies, and systems intended to serve them. Survivor engagement is not simply about sharing stories; it is about bringing expertise, leadership, and lived experience to the tables where decisions are made.

We are grateful to DHS for creating space for this important conversation and proud to see Sun Gate Foundation represented in national discussions that advance justice, opportunity, and lasting freedom for survivors.

Freedom should mean more than surviving trafficking. It should mean having the opportunity to build the future you choose.

$10,000. Five survivors. Four states. Limitless possibilities. 💛

We are proud to celebrate our Fall 2026 Sun Gate Foundation Scholars, five survivors of human trafficking pursuing bachelor’s and master’s degrees across four states.

Our scholars are studying Social Work, Supervision & Management, Sociology, and Organizational Resilience. Their scholarships provide support for tuition, textbooks, and transportation because the barriers to completing an education extend far beyond tuition.

This is what it means to invest in survivors: creating access, opening possibilities, and building futures.

Congratulations to our scholars! 🎓✨

Yesterday, Sun Gate Foundation CEO Shamere McKenzie had the honor of representing the Maryland State Human Trafficking Task Force during an international exchange with delegates from the International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP), an initiative of the U.S. Department of State.

Representatives from more than 23 countries, including Vanuatu, Uzbekistan, Mauritius, Burma, and Azerbaijan, came together to learn, exchange ideas, and discuss approaches to addressing human trafficking around the world. 🌎

Shamere was joined by other incredible members of the Maryland State Human Trafficking Task Force:

✨ Amanda Nosel – Global Refuge
✨ Dr. Nadine Finigan-Carr – University of Maryland Baltimore Center for Violence Prevention
✨ Dr. Sarah Batley – Araminta Freedom
✨ Debra Holbrook, MSN, RN – Mercy Medical Center Baltimore

Together, they highlighted the power of multidisciplinary collaboration in preventing trafficking and supporting victims and survivors.

The conversation was a powerful reminder that human trafficking does not recognize borders, and neither should our commitment to fighting it.

Different countries. Different perspectives. One shared responsibility: FREEDOM. 💙

We are proud to see survivor leadership represented in global conversations that strengthen systems, challenge exploitation, and create pathways to brighter futures.

Today, on World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, we stand in solidarity with millions of victims and survivors around the world.

Human trafficking is not just a global issue, it is happening in our neighborhoods, schools, workplaces, and online. Together, we have the power to change that.

At Sun Gate Foundation, we believe that education creates opportunity, opportunity builds independence, and independence helps restore freedom. Every scholarship awarded, every survivor empowered, and every voice amplified brings us one step closer to a world where exploitation has no place.

Today, we invite you to join us:
🧡 Learn the signs of human trafficking.
🧡 Believe and support survivors.
🧡 Speak up when something doesn’t seem right.
🧡 Invest in survivor leadership and education.

Freedom is possible. Hope is real. Together, we can open doors to brighter futures.

Awareness is where the conversation begins, but it shouldn’t be where it ends.

Creating lasting change means showing up for survivors long after awareness campaigns are over. Whether you’re learning the signs, supporting survivor-centered organizations, sharing credible resources, advocating for change, or investing in opportunities like education, your actions matter.

At Sun Gate Foundation, we believe lasting freedom is built through opportunity, community, and hope.

Together, we can help create a future where every survivor has the chance to heal, grow, and thrive.

Freedom is the beginning, not the finish line.

After leaving exploitation, many survivors continue to face challenges that can make rebuilding their lives difficult. Access to education, stable housing, meaningful employment, healthcare, and emotional support all play a vital role in creating lasting freedom.

At Sun Gate Foundation, we believe that true freedom is about more than surviving, it’s about having the opportunity to heal, grow, and build a future filled with hope and possibility.

That’s why we’re committed to investing in education and long-term support that empowers survivors to thrive.

Because everyone deserves more than survival.
They deserve the opportunity to flourish. 💛
