🎉 What a wonderful Senior Law Day!

Last Saturday, June 6, Senior Services of Alexandria and the Alexandria Bar Association hosted the 15th Annual Senior Law Day, and we were thrilled to welcome over 225 attendees!

The morning was filled with valuable information, helpful resources, great conversations, and of course delicious pastries, coffee, and juice. It was truly wonderful to see so many of you in person, connecting with neighbors and learning together.

This year’s program, “Confidence and Clarity as You Age,” featured important presentations on:
🔹 Protecting yourself from financial scams
🔹 Understanding public benefits
🔹 Planning ahead with essential estate planning documents

A big thank-you to our speakers, moderators, volunteers, partners, and everyone who attended and helped make this event such a success.

Presentations and the full program are now available on the SSA website for anyone who would like to review or share the information.

Thank you for being part of such an informative and uplifting morning! 💙

Celebrate Pet Appreciation Week with AniMeals on Wheels! 🐾

At Senior Services of Alexandria, we know pets are more than companions—they’re family. That’s why our AniMeals on Wheels program, in partnership with the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria, ensures seniors never have to choose between caring for themselves and caring for their beloved pets.
Through this program, eligible seniors receive free monthly deliveries of pet food and supplies—helping keep tails wagging and hearts full. By supporting both seniors and their pets, AniMeals on Wheels nurtures the powerful bond that brings comfort, joy, and companionship every day.

We kicked off June with a lively mix of connection, creativity, and community 💙 Residents enjoyed an engaging Bingo session at the Berkeley Branch Library with a special visit from the Sheriff’s Office, at Claridge House Karen led an energizing exercise class. Kevin led the exercise class at Alate. Olivia also spent time visiting St. Martin de Porres Senior Center, bringing warmth and connection midweek. We wrapped things up with a fun, hands-on art and crochet class at Claridge house with Tesfaye—who also supports our community through Meals on Wheels. A wonderful few days full of activity and heart! 💙

Volunteer of the Week: Angela and Brandon

This week, we are excited to recognize Angela and Brandon, two wonderful Friendly Visitor volunteers with Senior Services of Alexandria.

After moving back to the United States following eight years living in Europe, Angela and Brandon wanted to feel more connected to their local community. Through SSA’s Friendly Visitor Program, they found a meaningful way to build that connection — and in the process, formed a special friendship with Carla.

Here’s what they shared about their experience:

“Through the Friendly Visitor Program, Senior Services of Alexandria offered the perfect opportunity for us to hear Carla's experiences, share our story, and enjoy a mutually beneficial companionship. Our visits have established a lasting friendship and is something we look forward to every week!”

Thank you, Angela and Brandon, for showing the heart of what Friendly Visitor is all about: connection, companionship, and community. Your time and kindness make a real difference. 💙
