Another successful spring cleanup on the books! This year, this hard-working group helped collect roughly 148 cubic yards of trash. In conjunction with Dawn Hergott at the Arenac Soil Conservation District, Moffatt Township accepted a trailer full of cardboard, roughly 30 gallons of paint, about 10 computers, and 12 TVs for recycling. A huge thank you to Lenny Ray, Tom, Herbie, Stuart, Dave, Dennis, and Chad for volunteering their time, muscles and tractors to make this event happen. A special thank you to Larry Bialobrzeski for bringing his backhoe down to compact the roll-offs so we could squeeze a little more in.

REMINDER! This year’s spring clean-up will be held on Saturday June 6, 2026, at the township’s rubbish drop-off area on Newberry St next to the Methodist Church in Alger, from 9am-1pm.
Please, NO refrigerators or freezers. We cannot accept tires this year.

We will have 3 30-yard roll-off dumpsters on site with a backup ready if needed. We added something new this year, at residents' request: Shred Experts will have two 96-gallon lockable totes for confidential shredding of documents, tax returns, and other homeowner items. This is all provided as a free service, paid for from the Township General Fund.

In conjunction with the Arenac County Soil Conservation District we can accept cardboard, glass, old computers, printers, ink cartrdiges and other devices for free. Paints and stains latex only $2.00 for a gallon and $1.00 for half a gallon or less TVs and computer monitors are $5.00 each.

Today, May 29, 2026, the Moffatt Township Fire Department was the recipient of a $50,947.15 grant from the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe. $40,000 will go toward a county-wide 800 MHz paging/radio upgrade project to increase communication amongst police, fire, and medical agencies in multi-county jurisdictions, and $10,947.15 will go toward replacing the pump on our brush/wildland unit. A huge thank you from Moffatt Township to the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe for their generosity!

Crews from Bolen Asphalt began paving on South Forest Lake Drive from Seder Road to the Whitetail Dr./Otter Trail area, roughly 7600 feet. The funds from this come from the 2 mill road millage approved by the voters of Moffatt Township. This year's tax collection generated approximately $136,000 in revenue. Historically, the Township has not depleted all of the millage money each year, and some funds have accumulated, allowing us to do the entire 7600 feet this year. The road commission will share the cost of all local road and bridge upgrades: 40% Township, 60% Road Commission. However, the Road Commission will only match up to $150,000 of the project cost per Township, per year. This equates to a maximum $90,000 Road Commission match contribution per Township, per year. This project was quoted at $204,650.00 before any match program is applied. There are 2 gravel projects slated for this year: 9 Mile Road north of Maple Ridge and Alger Court. These gravel projects are in addition to roadside mowing and on gravel roads the brine application. Moffatt Township could not do these projects without the support of the taxpayers supporting the millages.

Moffatt Township is seeking a part-time maintenance/custodial position. Duties include, but are not limited to, general maintenance, painting, routine cleaning of the township hall/fire department, cleanup of the park after events, emptying trash at the hall, park, and cemetery. This position works up to approximately 15 hours per month during the spring/summer/fall. Current salary is 16.00 per hour with 6.5% match toward the retirement package. Received a few mosquito questions. Twp. Supervisor reached out to them Monday morning. Heres the scoop: Good morning Tom,

Yes, we are seeing a lot of adult mosquitoes all over our service areas. Right on time, too, this is the time of year when spring adult mosquitoes typically emerge. We did complete some spraying on the interior route this past Friday night. Vince sprayed about 25 miles around the lake and responded to a few resident calls.

As a reminder, these are the label requirements for night spraying; temps 55 degrees or higher, winds less than 10 mph, and it cannot be raining at the time of application. These are the label requirements and in the applicators world, the label is the law. That said, we'll have a few "windows" this week to respond to resident calls and spray some hot spots before MDW. Later this week and the weekend current temps look chilly which should help. Next week we look to warm up considerably, which should allow us to roll full night routes.

This year’s spring clean-up will be held on June 6, 2026, at the township’s rubbish drop-off area on Newberry St next to the Methodist Church in Alger, from 9am-1pm.

We haven't heard back on tire disposal, cardboard, and electronics (TVs, Computer monitors) with a fee. We can accept old computers, printers, and other devices for free.
