At approximately 11:30am on August 27, 2026, Algoma Fire and Rescue were dispatched to a private residence on Cherry Tree Rd in the Township of Ahnapee for the report of a house fire.

The Algoma Fire Department upgraded Kewaunee county MABAS Division 138 box 6-1-2 to the working still level which included mutual aid from Kewaunee, Casco, and Southern Door Fire Departments.

While en route, dispatch reported that the fire was on the exterior of the home and that the homeowner believed they had the fire out.

The first arriving units completed their assessment and evaluated for fire extension into the attic. The fire had extended into the attic space and was quickly extinguished. The home was then ventilated and mutual aid units were released shortly after arrival.

There were no injuries at the scene. During this event a secondary EMS call was dispatched in the City of Algoma and was handled by Algoma Rescue. All remaining Fire and EMS units were able to clear the scene and were back in service by approximately 1:30pm.

The Algoma Fire department would like to thank our mutual aid partners as well as the Kewaunee County Sheriff’s Department and WPS for their assistance.

🚑July Call Volume Update 🚑

In July 2026, Algoma Rescue responded to 66 EMS-related calls—a new department record! On top of that, 2 additional calls were handled via mutual aid (1 by Luxemburg Rescue, 1 by Kewaunee Rescue), bringing the monthly total to 68 calls (an average of over 2 calls per day). Note: This total does not include fire responses.

Did you know? Kewaunee County Fire & EMS services are not full-time. Almost all of our responders step up 24/7/365 while balancing regular full-time jobs and families.

Algoma Fire & Rescue extends a massive thank you to our dedicated team for their hard work and resilience, as well as our neighbors in Luxemburg and Kewaunee for their continued partnership!
