DMV UPDATE: Drivers looking to title and register vehicles bought out-of-state now have a quick and easy way to do it online. Many Wisconsin residents purchase vehicles in other states, most can now use Wisconsin DMV's eMV Public online application to title/register them.

Over the past few years 19% of all used vehicle title transactions were for out-of-state vehicles. That’s more than 100,000 DMV customers each year who can now apply online for expedited processing. Learn more: https://wisconsindot.gov/Pages/about-wisdot/newsroom/news-rel/030421OOSnoweMV.aspx

Press Release: Internet Crimes Against Children Arrest

Know the Facts:

We are aware of a video on social media that shows Sturgeon Bay Police Officers taking an individual into custody that occurred on January 24th, 2021. There are also rumors of what occurred so we are releasing the facts in this case, surrounding that arrest. This can now be released because a criminal complaint was filed and the suspect in this case was charged by the Door County District Attorney’s Office.

On January 23rd, 2021 a Sturgeon Bay Police Officer began an Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Investigation on an Internet platform called Doublelist. This investigation determined a 57-year-old male from Little Suamico, WI was communicating with what he believed to be a 15-year-old child. The suspect traveled to Sturgeon Bay, WI on January 24th, 2021 to meet with who he believed to be that child. The suspect was subsequently arrested by a team of police officers.

During the course of the investigation, it was learned the suspect was on supervision for a previous child s*x crime. With the felonies committed, violation of supervision, and severity of this case, the arrest was approached as what is referred to as a high-risk traffic stop. The suspect was subsequently taken into custody without incident. The Oconto County Sheriff's Office was informed of the arrest, as he resides in their community.

Corey Bergh, a 57-year-old male from Little Suamico, WI was arrested and charged with the following crimes:

- Attempted 2nd Degree S*xual Assault of a Child
- Use of a Computer to Facilitate a Child S*x Crime
- Child Enticement

Presently, Corey Bergh is confined to the Door County Jail on a cash bond, in addition to being on a probation hold.

This case reminds us of the potential danger children can face while on the Internet. We encourage parents to talk with their children and the importance of staying safe online.

Parks and Recreation Supporters: We need your input in planning Algoma's parks!

The Parks and Recreation Committee began the planning process to update our 5-year Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan. The Committee's goal is for this plan update to reflect the priorities of our community members. With that in mind, we ask that you take 5-10 minutes to take the Algoma Parks and Recreation Survey and encourage other Algoma residents to do the same. https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/AlgomaCORP2021.

To see our current goals and objectives, our accomplishments over the last five years and an overview of the park system, a presentation is available here: https://documentcloud.adobe.com/link/review?uri=urn:aaid:scds:US:f61c9832-1707-41ee-92dc-92dda55c1934

The Committee will meet on March 15th at 7:00 pm at the Algoma Youth Club to discuss the results of the community survey. If you are interested in attending, please contact Sara Robertson at 487-5480 or email [email protected].

Please share this post with your friends and neighbors. Paper copies of the survey are available at City Hall, the Library and the Youth Club. Thank you for your continued support of our community parks and facilities!

A 'Christmas Tree Ship' at the bottom of Lake Michigan

Copied this post from Kevin Naze, worth checking it.

Neat story on the Christmas tree ship (Rouse Simmons), captained by an Ahnapee (Algoma) native, Herman E. Schuenemann. It sank in a late November gale 108 years ago.

The bottom of Lake Michigan holds the story of many lost ships and those that voyaged across the lake in them. Over 100 years later - one ship still holds great mystery.

Hope everyone has a safe and happy holiday!
